My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Blue Ball Inn. We were looking for a perfectly English country inn experience with some contemporary comforts and we found them at this B'nB steeped in 600+ years of tradition. The approach of the staff is very accommodating and adeptly practice modern hospitality while maintaining their casualness. eg. for every breakfast/dinner we found a table reserved in our name, blocked with a simple name card on it. Being in the midst of Devon and Exmoor they realize guests are keen to go on walks- to that end they have detailed many walks of varying durations and ease of outing, and have printed copies of each on hand as well. Their website is very professional, up to date and helpful, and the differences and features of each room is well laid out. Our room was a queen + single bed and very spacious. Bed was comfortable, the bathroom was modern with new fittings and a nice bath/shower combination. The meals were very satisfying- my wife is vegetarian and at breakfast was offered a tasty, substantial vegetarian 'sausage' in lieu of meat. The full English breakfast is cooked to your specific order. The dinner menu and quality were really good too, changed daily- the duck breast was done great, very springy and tasty. Lastly, they have a great pub/bar with local brews (they are a Casque Marque- lost on me unfortunately but a standard of pub excellence for serving cask ale) as well as ice cold taps.
