    Portugal Hotel Guides

Most Canadian passengers taking trans-Atlantic flights to western Europe catch a faint glimmer of the beauty that is Portugal. However, this country is much more than an attractive fly-over. It's also a country with a deep, rich history that boasts a high standard of living. The accessibility of Portugal hotel deals to forward-thinking travellers adds to the allure of this beautiful country.

Due to the lengthy history of this small, coastal country, it's hard to turn anywhere without spotting some interesting piece of architecture or historical monument. Everything from hotels in Portugal to the museums and libraries are brimming with distinct architecture and interesting stories. Taking the time to visit and adequately explore this unique part of the Iberian Peninsula should be a must for any well-rounded traveller.

In the capital city of Lisbon, the streets are constantly bustling with travellers and denizens of the historic city. Visitors to Lisbon can see a wide range of attractions that tell the complete history of the city. Everything from the colonization and eventual transition to democratic republic is touched upon in its own way. This story is perhaps most effectively told through the distinctive use of varying types of architecture throughout the city.

Many have said that the historical architecture of Lisbon is a big part of why it is the second-most visited city in Europe behind Barcelona, Spain. Millions of people flock here each year to visit the stunning theaters, inspiring cathedrals, and unique Postmodern buildings. Cheap hotel deals in Portugal are perhaps easiest to find in this large city. However, Lisbon is not the only place to see in Portugal.

Lisbon only recently surpassed the Algarve as the top tourist destination in Portugal. The Algarve has a rich history just like Lisbon but is actually more well known for the unique local foods produced in the area. There are also many distinctive Portugal hotels here as well. The Algarve is one of the largest orange and almond producers in the European Union, and it is well known as a gastronomical tourist hot-spot. It's never difficult to find a special little restaurant serving the best food at great rates. There are also many specials for tourists who want to experience the breadth of what the region has to offer.

Finding Portugal hotel packages that offer reservations for rooms at cheap discount prices is not difficult with the right amount of planning. No matter where you book your cheap Portugal hotel deal, remember to look to a wide range of sources for reviews and recommendations for the area.

"A fantastic hotel in the heart of Lisboa"
We had a fantastic stay at this hotel. The staff went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant one (from comp'ing the breakfast, two welcome drinks and arranging airport transport in a comfortable car with a pleasant driver at a rate less than a taxi). I agree with the rest of the reviews that the breakfast is out of this world and the hotel's design is so unique. I only wish that the rooms were a tiny bit bigger so that two people can sit, but the room itself is very clean, and stylish with all of the modern amenities. I have no reservations highly recommending this hotel to any of my friends traveling to Lisboa in the future and look forward to staying there again the next time I'm in town.

Lisbonne est une ville très agréable et assez dépaysante, de notre hotel nous pouvions facilement accéder aux points intéressants de la ville. Nous avons passé un super séjour, malgré le temps épouvantable le lundi .

    "Relaxing"
Chose this hotel as it was away from the busy town etc. Got exactly what I wanted. It was lovely and quiet the pool had at most 10 people at it at one time. Pool was quite cold but you quickly got used to it. Only issue I'd have is at lunch time. Only lunch available was at the club house. Which was fine as it was a short walk. However the menu needs to be improved. I didn't go to Portugal to eat chicken tikka masala and fish and chips every day. The option of fresh fish, vegetables and rice should always be available and not a once a week special. Dinner is a buffet of €25 each. It's very well done and a lovely selection of food with good service. Breakfast was the usual with the chef there to cook omelettes as requested. At the end of my stay there was a very large group of men. Possibly a stag. They were allowed to take the conference room which is beside the games room. They were so loud on multiple nights I went back to my room to have some peace. Overall was a good place to stay in October. If you want somewhere you can walk to the beach or the shops this is not the place for you. Ideal for peace away from the city and obviously if you enjoy golf.

    "Lovely hotel and facilities"
The Pestana Grand is an excellent hotel of true 5 star quality set in beautiful surroundings of luxury. The swimming pool was so inviting and wrapped itself around half of the hotel, overlooking he sea front and set amongst the most beautiful tropical garden. Every morning you would wake up to silence and darkness (around 7am) with an emerging sunrise ready to light up the hotel. At breakfast time you were greeted by staff who would allocate a table for you allowing you to enjoy breakfast. There was no rush and plenty of room with ample choice of food taste for breakfast. The rest of the day was enjoyed indulging yourself in the hotel facilities and soaking up the sunshine around the pool. A poolside bar was easily accessed with some shade to enjoy to take a break from the sunshine. The hotel rooms are spacious and immaculate with a generous sized bathroom in good decorative taste and a decent wardrobe with plenty of shelving and hanging space. It was a real pleasure to return to the hotel after a day of touring the island to return to such luxury. I would definitely return to the Pestana Grand and thoroughly recommend it to everyone.

"Superb hotel with stunning views from cliff top"
Enjoyed our 8 night stay at the Casino Park. Reception staff were very welcoming and we were offered a welcome drink. Our room was spacious and well equipped with a good sized balcony overlooking Funchal bay and the casino. Breakfasts were a delight with a large selection to suit all tastes. Breakfast could also be taken on the terrace overlooking the pool and ocean. Evening entertainment was relaxing with vocalists playing in the lounge area.

    "Hotel that aims to please..."
We have just returned from a weeks stay at The Vine Hotel Funchal, what a fantastic stay. We were celebrating our honeymoon and my birthday also fell during our stay. We were greeted by very friendly staff who showed us to the roof top pool and 360bar which by the way are fabulous. We had a complimentary drink before being shown to our room. I read a lot about the lights and difficulty people had using them, if you just take a minute to look at the layout there are no problems. We were given a bottle of champagne as a honeymoon gift which was such a lovely touch. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff at The Vine they are wonderful. The view from the roof top bar is amazing and just allows you to see how central you are in Funchal, perfect location. We thought Madeira had a reputation for the older generation, and it does still attract an older age range, but I'm pleased to say that with Hotels like The Vine the trend is definitely moving towards those in their late 20s early 30s, cocktails and infinity pools! Funchal has a lot to offer from whale, dolphin watching, to amazing botanical gardens and local traditions. By far the best restaurant that we had the pleasure to eat at was Restaurante Do Forte at Rua Portao São Tiago, for 29 euros each we had a 6 course meal, amazing staff and a beautiful view, but you have to book early as it seems everyone loves this place.
