    F.Y.R.O. Macedonia Hotel Guide

The Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia is one of the most ancient civilizations in Europe as well as one of Europe's newest republics. The Vardar River divides Skopje, the nation's capital, into old and new sections. Completely rebuilt after a cataclysmic earthquake destroyed much of the city in 1963, the new part of Skopje boasts trendy restaurants, stylish cafes, and comfortable F.Y.R.O. Macedonia hotels. It's easy to track down affordable F.Y.R.O. Macedonia hotel deals in Skopje.

The old part of Skopje features charming 15th-century Turkish baths and an interesting Eastern Orthodox monastery called Sveti Spas. Sveti Spas is built below the top of the ground because when it was first erected during the years of the Ottoman reign, it was illegal for a church to be higher than a mosque. The bazaar in this part of the city is the best place to locate local handicrafts at reasonable prices as gifts for loved ones back home. Skopje's Old City is a good place to track down a cheap F.Y.R.O. Macedonia hotel deal.

Two hours by train outside of Skopje lies the city of Bitola. Bitola was founded in the 4th century B.C. by Philip of Macedon, the father of Alexander the Great. One mile from the city's modern center sits the ruins of Heraclea Lyncestis, the original site of the city. Today, Bitola's Bezistan Bazaar mostly sells electronics and modern clothing, but its 15th-century architecture is remarkably well preserved. The Jenji, Ishak Çelebi, and Kodža Kadi mosques are also worth visiting although nonbelievers may not be allowed to enter. Bitola is another location where you will find excellent cheap hotel deals in F.Y.R.O. Macedonia.

Macedonia's most beautiful spot and its tourism center is the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ohrid. The city sits on the banks of Lake Ohrid, a tectonic lake with such a unique ecosystem that NASA actually named one of the lakes on Jupiter's moon Titan after it. Lake Ohrid is a terrific venue for fishing, boating and other water sports. Above the lake's eastern shore lies Galicica National Park, a popular place for hiking and mountain biking.

Ohrid is where you'll find the best hotels in F.Y.R.O. Macedonia. You'll be able to book reservations for rooms at special discount rates here. The city also has many vibrant restaurants, cafes, and nightclubs. Ohrid is famous for its ancient churches and basilicas. The oldest, St. Sophia Church, dates back to the 11th century and incorporates many of the stones that were used by the Roman structure that once stood on its spot. Expedia can help you access affordable F.Y.R.O. Macedonia hotel packages so that you can see everything Macedonia has to offer.

"Cosy hotel close to city center and river"
We chose the hotel based on its proximity to the meeting and also baes on the good reviews. We were not disappointed - the hotel has a boutique feel w modern amenities, good breakfast, friendly and responsive staff, and close (10 min walk) to the touristic places. Would gladly stay there again

    "Nice"
Location was pretty decent, not as far out from the centre as I thought it was going to be - easily walkable to main sights. Bus station is walkable, altho' a little far in heat and with luggage. Room was very nice aesthetically and comfortable, altho' there was a bit of a lack of attention to detail in terms of cleaning it after the previous guests. There were used cotton wool buds in one of the drawers, which was an unpleasant discovery. Bathroom/shower was quite decent, nice. I quite liked the glass sink. The shower was stylish looking, but hand held shower head only, which is a bit tedious. Hairdryer provided. No fridge, no aircon. Room was a bit cramped, and the wardrobe was so shallow in depth that it didn't have a rail, but two coat hooks on the back wall for a couple of coat hangers (it wasn't deep enough to take a coat hanger if there had been a rail). Found this odd. Wifi was absolutely hopeless. They only have routers on reception, the first two floors and the top floor for breakfast. So if you're on floor 3... don't expect to be able to connect for more than a few seconds at a time, if you're lucky. I don't understand why they don't have routers on each floor. Lack of attention to detail again perhaps. Staff were pleasant and professional, and spoke English. Breakfast buffet was very, very extensive. I imagine they must have a lot of wasted food though, there was just so much (and lots of it seemed more like desserts).

"Nice hotel, bit noisy at weekends up to 1am"
The location is excellent, like staying on the top floor of Meadow Hall. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The only downside was loud music (from the nearby main square) up to midnight or 1am. This only happened on Friday and Saturday nights. The World Cup was on, this might have affected it.

"Amazing value for money, fantastic location"
The owner is very friendly, greeted me by name when I arrived (rather than scrabbling for papers as is often the case even with small properties) and was available if you needed assistance. Able to take credit card payment too. The room was quite simple and not the most modern, but well equipped, clean and actually quite a lot of space. Had a fridge, sink, cutlery/crockery, and a couple of camping hobs/hotplates to use for cooking. Had table and sofa seating plus a balcony with table and chairs. The balcony wasn't overlooked by any other buildings or rooms which was really nice to have some privacy to sit out. The walls were a little thin in terms of hearing people coming/going or using the shower next door, but not in a particularly troubling way. The location was really good, just off the square with the iconic tree. They have a sandwich board on the square pointing the way (as it's just tucked round a little corner behind a restaurant) - not sure I would have found it otherwise, but once you find it it's easy. Provided a map of Ohrid and some tourist info. Sure he would have provided more if I had asked. Helped with bus info to get to next destination. I would stay here again.

    "Good friendly hotel"
Staff very friendly at the Sirius and helpful too. Radmila on reception has excellent English and extremely helpful. Food excellent and the waiters will try their best to understand what you are after. There were a few weddings that were a bit noisy as we were directly above the function suite but it finished at 1.00am and it was quiet after that. Ask for a room on the second or third floor if you are on the same wing as the function suite and you should be ok for an early night! Excellent indoor pool and spa with great treatments. Pool area has very loud music but that seems to be the Macedonian way. you get used to it but make sure you are away from the speakers! Locals can pay to use the pool and on a couple of days it was very busy poolside. Hotel were happy to arrange taxis into town, about 2km, which were very inexpensive (50 Denar...about £0.50) and also the transfer from Skopje airport (50 euro). I would recommend not walking into town as there isn't a path and the road can be busy at times. Strumica is a fantastic town with lots of excellent restaurants to enjoy and a great night life.
