“Clean, friendly and conveniently located”
A cool old railway hotel, very clean, friendly staff, decent breakfast. Surprisingly quiet given location next to train tracks and town centre - thick Victorian brick walls helped! Plenty of parking.
“Not that bad”
There is no question this hotel would benefit from a refurb, but that said, for the prices they charge it's not bad. If your room is too hot, you can turn teh radiators off, it is possible to open the windows, but I probably shouldnt reveal how, just look carefully and work it out! The bathrooms I have had were both clean and perfectly acceptable. The bar could do with some real beer, but that said its adequate for a work night. The cuisine is limited, but wholesome and nicely presented, the service could be a little quicker, but I had much worse in much more expensive hotels. The restaurant staff are inclined to chat amongst themselves rather than paying attention to the job in hand, so be prepared to chase them if you have to wait too long! There are plenty of nicer places in and around Chesterfield, but they are all dearer, so as the old saying goes, 'you pays your money and you takes your choice'

the hotel is good, nice size rooms but the kettle in my room had chips and was caked in limescale
“Too Hot!”
Very hot in the room. Old decor. Lights failed after I turned the kettle on. Breakfast was OK. Lots of fruit available. Not good coffee. Staff were very friendly.

“Hot rooms, squeaky floors”
I was very unimpressed with this hotel. We only stayed one night and that is about all either my companion or I could have dealt with. The rooms were decorated in the style of my grandmother's house and smelled slightly that way as well. Our room was hot on arrival despite the heat being off and it being a fairly chilly evening outside. By the morning the room was a sauna. The bathroom window was also open on our arrival which we were unable to shut, before realizing later we would not want to with it being so warm. The bathroom could have used a bit more cleaning and we had no hot water for our showers in the morning, which was likely only bearable because the room was so hot we didn't mind the cool shower. Walking through the hotel was noisy no matter how soft you walked as every floorboard creaked and squeaked. The staff was reasonably friendly, though the day folks were better than the guy in the evening. If you can find somewhere else to stay, I'd go with another option

Hotel was old with squeaky floorboards and banging corridor doors. No air-condition so windows had to be left open. Hotel overlooked a busy road and railway, so very noisy. On the first day I repoted that the telephone in my room was not working. Although I reminded them everyday it was never fixed.
