"Excellent place to stay"
My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights. In short, everything was excellent. A friendly welcome from Sarah got us off to a good start and she was more than happy to give us some advice on things to do in the local area. We had a double room (not a suite) which was spacious and had a big bathroom with walk in shower. Everything was spotless and it all worked ( hot water etc). Bed was huge and comfortable. Kettle, tea, coffee and fresh milk in the small fridge all nice touches. Breakfast was excellent. We have no hesitation in recommending you stay here. Sarah and Patrick deserve the 5 stars we and everyone else gives them.

"Excellent - apart from the night noises!"
In a great location with superb views across the Welsh hills, a nice bar with an excellent menu and a relaxed atmosphere. The room was comfortable and clean but everything fell down due to the noises at night. It was either the plumbing or a fan system but it was incredibly loud and and came and went intermitently all through the night, leading to a very poor night's sleep.

"Pleasantly surprised by hotel"
Hotel was perfect for what we needed, we used it as a base. The lady on reception was very smiley, lovely and helpful. The only let down for us was the food. Breakfast service was nice, much better on Saturday as they took our order from our table. Sunday was a buffet and not as good. The meat at breakfast and dinner tasted a like poor quality. The pool was nice but the jacuzzi was broken. The sauna was also nice. the hotel was nice and quiet. We were worried as there is a pontins behind the hotel, we didn't need to have been worried though. The room was very comfy and it had a nice view.

Celyn Villa Bed and Breakfast

Carmel Road, Holywell - Map

We stayed three nights in the Rose Room at the Celyn Villa B and B in Carmel, Holywell, Flintshire. It was our 6th and last stay at various B and B/guesthouses across Wales from south to central to north over a two week holiday period. Although nicely sized with a large (king) bed, the Rose room didn't have an ensuite bathroom, but we had the exclusive use of a very nice, large bathroom just steps down the hallway from our door. It is safe to say that our first reaction to the property, which is a well-maintained, attractive country cottage, was that we would have trouble with the very low ceilings in the stairwell and upstairs hallway. We actually had little difficulty, but be aware that care is always needed to not hit your head. The best part of the experience was the genuine hospitality and friendliness of Paulene and Les, who were kind and helpful at every turn. The breakfasts provided were exceptional, and the one evening that we dined at the Celyn Villa was a culinary triumph! Paulene is a wonderful cook; almost everything is fresh, locally-sourced and homemade...breads, muffins, preserves, etc. While the Celyn Villa is not the most 'elegant' of the properties at which we stayed, it is perfectly comfortable in its own skin and it was a highly enjoyable way for us to end our holiday in Wales.

"Pleasant stay in delightful surroundings"
It was a great base during a north-westerly tour of England and Wales. The food was good, not amazing, but meals are always subject to opinion. We had to wait a while for breakfast which wasn't a problem as we weren't in a great rush and it actually contributed to our feeling of relaxation. It was freshly cooked so there wasn't much in the way of self service, although some individual packets of cereal and yoghurts were on display. I particularly enjoyed the gooseberry yoghurt! On request, a beautiful platter of fresh fruit was served to us too.
