“The hotel is located close to the mangroves - excellent for nature lovers.”
Marleana and Berlan, the owners, were excellent hosts. Very friendly and out going. They made us feel like we were at home. We loved the location as it was close to Quepos and the National Park at Maunel Antonio but far enough away to avoid the crowds. They also offer guided tours through the mangroves- on kayaks of course. We would recommend booking the large two bedroom suite. Recommend getting a rental car in San Jose or Quepos to get a better feel for the country side. This was our first trip to Costa Rica. When we return we will definately stop here.
“Out of the way, but escape the hustle and bustle”
The very best thing about the Kayak Inn is the hosts, Bernard and Marlene. They took extremely good care of us while we were there. The Inn is located in Damas, a few miles north of Quepos, which is a bit out of the way, but by the same token away from the hectic tourist town. The Inn is locate on a small canal lined with mangrove trees, which serves as a location to launch the Kayaks and paddle thru the jungle to the ocean out to Isle da Damas. Next time we go to Manuel Antonio we will stay at the Kayak Inn.
“We'll be back”
The propietors, Bernard and Marlene go out of their way to make your stay memorable. The location seemed a little out of the way at first, but you soon appreciate being out next to the mangroves with monkeys, iguanas, and birds as your constant companions. The rooms are clean, and ours was quite large. The breaklfasts were great, and the beds comfortable with AC that worked. If you want to be close to stores, town, and the Manuel Antonio scene, this is probably not the place for you, but if you want friendly staff that makes you feel at home, and lots of monkeys, this is the place! I was traveling with my college aged daughter and she was worried about not seeing monkeys. Well she fell in love with this place! And I highly recommend taking a kayak tour out to Islas Damas with Marlene. You will see more than the usual tourist places, and it is all quite reasonably priced.
“Great monkeys & awesome owners”
The rooms were very clean. The deorations were very nice. We seen monkeys every night & other wildlife. Good place close to Quepos, but a little drive. Far enough to get away from the tourists, but a close drive to town. The hotel is about one mile on a dirt road (road was pretty good). You drive through a small neighborhood. The hotel property is on a canal that you can boat or kayak to the ocean. The trip to Damas Island was great. This a very remote island that is beautiful. The owners Marlene & Bernal go out of the their way to help you. Breakfast was great, fresh fruit, eggs, beans & rice, usually some kind of meat and toast.
“Christmas in Damas”
The most wonderful aspect of Kayak Lodge is its owners: Bernal and Marlene. They are helpful, considerate, enthusiastic about their country and showing it to foreigners, and provide true value for the money spent at their establishment. They are very accommodating about schedules and willing to feed anyone, anytime. Each day was a joy (we stayed for 5 days). The most trying aspect of the lodge is location -- 9 km from Quepos and 9 more km from Manual Antonio Park. We had a car, which was very helpful, but transportation is also available by bus and by arrangement with Bernal. By the end of our time there, we considered the distance to be an asset.
“Stay Here Everyone :)))”
Amazing hosts, beautiful setting, fabulous food, it felt like visting family :) I wouldn't call it a luxury hotel - but we did stay in a 5 star luxury resort on this visit to Costa Rica and Kayak Lodge was better in sooooooo many ways. The warmth, the welcome, the advice, the knowledge of the area - we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Thank you Bernal and Marlena (and Sira) - you made our stay in Costa Rica exceptional!
“Out of town but a nice spot”
I stayed at this hotel for one night as the accommodation I was seeking in Manuel Antonio was booked out. The lodge is in a quiet spot but is out of town so it's best to have a car here, or just stay one night. The owners were extremely friendly, and even drove me into Quepos for a visit at night and then dropped me at my hotel in Manuel Antonio! The food was good and the kayak tour was great.
“Super hôtel”
Hôtel très joli bien placé pour nous pour notre voyage facile à trouver et personnel vraiment tes sympathique et très accueillant balade en kayak vraiment très bien et très intéressant
“The best place ever!!”
Marlene and Bernal made us feel like family. They are the most hospitable people ever. They upgraded our room, just because!! The personalized tour that Bernal took us on in the mangroves was unbelievble. Marlene actually made us a hot lunch even though they were not serving lunch. I can not say enough positive about our experience at the Kayak.
“Great place!”
We had a room right on the canal and was amazed to see white faced monkies on a rope, right outside the sliding glass door! The only thing to complain about is that the "kitchen" only had a microwave, even though it looked like a regular kitchen. The kayaking was great, though we didn't have time to paddle to Isla Damas.
