Arrived mid afternoon and the Hotel was locked with a note on the door to call Stephen who was in the pub. We were eventually let in by a woman who had also come from the pub. She didn’t introduce herself, showed us to a room that smelled musty and had dirty hand prints on the door. Even though the hotel professes to also be a restaurant there was no sign of any where that might happen and we were pointed to a fish restaurant further down the beach which she admitted she hadn’t visited. When we asked about breakfast we were pointed to a cafe round the corner. She then left to go back to the pub leaving us completely alone in the hotel. We left. Given the attention we received I’m sure they have no idea that we didn’t stay longer than 10 minutes. Avoid it at all costs.

A little updating needed, but the room was comfy & warm, a bit disappointed there was no breakfast as advertised & the restaurant was closed , but other than that a nice stay for the price !
Sadly very disappointed with my stay. No kitchen / food despite being advertised & paying for bed & breakfast. Only saw the owners once at check in. Dated decor & carpet on stairs needed hoovering & cleaning. The bedroom was very cold. No heating on the first night but was provided an extra blanket & little blower heater which wasn’t ideal. They did not check the room properly… no shower gel & ran out of toilet roll with no spare provided. Shame because it has a lot of potential. Good location though
Hotel was as expected. Room was comfortable, food was ok. Dogs allowed throughout which is the reason we picked Moelwyn.
It would be helpful if the booking form included dietary requirements though.
Excellent location on the beach front.
Owners were very chatty and nice.
Older hotel, very clean, good condition but needs some updating, nice location, good price, excellent breakfast. Would I stay there again? Yes, I would.
We wanted to stay in this area and the Moelwyn fitted the bill. We got on very well with the staff we met and enjoyed our stay: lovely cooked breakfast, comfortable quiet room and parking nearby. Above all the views are marvellous.
However, it appears to be a work in progress.
1. The carpet in our bedroom was very dirty and urgently needs deep cleaning.
2. The grout in our shower was mouldy in large patches.
3. Some options at breakfast were limited: three varieties of cereal, only strawberry jam. No fruit.
4. Some paint on our bedroom ceiling was pealing off.
I would love to return to see the finished product.
A lovely little family run hotel. Dog friendly to the extent that I think my dog would prefer to stay there than at home. Very handily situated for the prom and beach and with free parking outside. The quality of the food was excellent. The menu wasn't extensive but nicely varied; I had rib-eye steak one evening and mussels the next.
The full English breakfast was substantial and meant that I was able to got through the day without having to worry about lunch. My one quibble was that the mushrooms appeared to have been cooked in oil rather than butter which meant that there was an oily patch on the plate. If the mushrooms were allowed to drain before plating up that would help solve that problem. In the past when I have gone on holiday to North Wales I have rented a cottage. Having stayed at the Moelwyn I think that, in future, my first choice would be to stay there and only rent a cottage if I couldn't get a room there.
What a wonderful quaint, hotel beside the sea. We had the top floor, it was a hot weekend so it was lovely to wake to the sound of the ocean lapping against the shore. Despite the bar downstairs, it was very quiet. Breakfast was lovely with a choice of cereals and juices, followed by a cooked breakfast. It was very easy to check in, and was in a great location too.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The hotel is in a great location near the seafront.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Food really excellent, especially from the evening menu.
The only downside was the room. Situated in the 'attic' space, it was very warm. Although it does have a good Velux window and second window, plus one in the en-suite, much needed.
Wonderful location right on the seafront , lovely views from the restaurant and my bedroom. Handy to walk to shops, pubs etc in the lively village. Staff very friendly , welcoming and helpful with early breakfast provided without any problems. Well appointed rooms with a few minor maintenance issues which the staff took note of. Food a bit overpriced but good quality and beautifully presented. An ideal spot to tour the North Wales coast line with good beaches and interesting towns in each direction.
Friendly staff, walking distance of everything in the town, we had view of sea through Velux window, a thoughtful step allowed us shorter people to view the sea! Lovely breakfast to.
Room for a king size not the biggest .but warmly greeted by tom .evening meal was absolutely amazing ..as was the breakfast. And the dog was very happy too .
All good Abigail was very nice and friendly
Makes you feel at home.. she also offered to make our family bacon buns for us to take on our journey home😍

We had eaten at the restaurant in the past and enjoyed it however it was closed for dinner during our stay, having said that Criccieth was closed too!
The bar was closed too.
Breakfast was good.
