“4th visit - enjoyed it again!”
We are scuba divers and love having an on-site dive shop. Allegro Cozumel is perfect for this and it may not have all of the "fancy" things some look for but it has the comfort of really nice people and decent food. It was low season so most of our meals were ala carte which was just fine with us. Keep in mind during low season there are fewer staff so be patient. If you come with an attitude of hurry, hurry, don't go. Vacations are meant to be a slow-paced relaxing time away from the hustle of every day life - where else do you have to be. The new dive shop staff were excellent and so was the diving. It's a little more $$ but worth it. Highly recommend diving in Cozumel. Rented a jeep and drove around the island - always a good idea if you can do this. We may explore other destinations now but Allegro has a special place in our hearts.
“Just right, especially for the price”
The hotel was great. The staff, were all very nice and helpful. he expedia-arranged taxi was totally hassle-free. he food was abudnant and lots of variety. The restaurants (we only ate at the Mexican) the food was fabulous but for some reason (more expensive for them, I assume) they discourage you from trying for reservations. We went immediately to the desk to make a reservation at check-in and had no problem getting one. Despite that they say the food is the same, it is not. The rooms are real cute with hammocks on the porch. The beds are hard, but I like hard beds. The drinks may be weak, I'm not much of a drinker, but they are plentiful and no hassle. No one was ever in the pools, although they were very nice. The beach is well groomed. There is some distance between it and the next hotels on each side so you can walk a little bit or get away from the people at the busy part of the beach if you want to. hey will try with various incentives to get you to listen to the time share lecture next door.Depending on how much time you have, it will not be 90 min as they promise. More like 2.5 hours which includes a meal. So if you do it, be prepared and they will arrange discounted tour activities for you as a reward. Everything was exactly as they said. No ripping off. The snorkeling is good if you have been no where better. Much of the reef is sick if you know what you're looking at, but it is still pretty, enough fish to entertain you and awesome even if it is not the healthiest.
“We didn't want to leave”
The whole experience there was great. From the time we arrived, everyone who worked at the hotel treated us like we were the only guests. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The A/C worked very well also. The pools were clean and the snorkling was wonderful. The dining rooms were very clean and the food was good also. We had our 2 year old daughter with us and she had a great time. There was lots of activities to keep her busy. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone.
“Great girlfriend's get-away”
This was a girlfriend's getaway....we left our husbands and kids at home so we could totally relax and enjoy the caribbean sea and sunshine. This was my 4th time at the Allegro and as always it was a great time. The food was great, the shows very entertaining and the staff are always so friendly. We took a 3 hour snorkeling trip and got to see so many great sea creatures, enjoy fresh fruit and margaritas and listen to great music. The beach is beautiful and we had fun bartering with the beach vendors (who were very respectful and not pushy). They also have a wonderful kids club which we have used on previous trips and the same person is in charge of it. We wouldn't stay anywhere else on the island. It feels like coming home everytime we stay here!!
“5 days wasn't long enough!”
Stayed at the Allegro Cozumel April 26-30--it was very nice. Rooms are small but newly painted and very clean. Walls are thin and beds are hard (as they are all over in Mex.) but after a long day on the beach it doesn't really matter! During our stay the hotel was only 1/4 to 1/3 full at most--post spring break--no college kids, mostly couples & a few families. Food was delicious! We tried both ala carte restaurants (good service & great food--especially the fish!) as well as the breakfast and dinner buffets in the main restaurant and the poolside lunch buffet. All staff we encountered were pleasant and hard-working. Drinks flow freely and are plenty strong, but they get warm quick--bring insulated cups. Check in and check out were both smooth. Still some signs of hurricane damage near the beach and along the periphery but the hotel grounds are beautifully planted, colorful and well kept. Husband completed 5 dives through the on-site dive shop (Dive Palancar). They were efficient and the excursions were varied and well run. Beach is gorgeous and there is good snorkeling right off of the shore (saw some rays, eels, and tiny jellyfish and lots of small fish). Not a problem to get a palapa on the beach or poolside. Wish we could have stayed longer and can't wait to go back!
“Can't wait to go back.”
Our visit in April was very laid back, very relaxing. We had access to everything all the time including beach chairs and umbrellas, Hobie Cats, and weight room. There was a lot to see snorkeling right out from the beach. The maid left a different towel sculpture with flowers on the bed every day. She left lights on and cranked up the air. There was a dawn chorus before 6am and many birds along the shore and the mangrove swamps on either side of the resort: Roseate Spoonbills, Snowy Egrets, Tropical Mockingbirds, Brown Pelicans(feeding), White Pelicans, Frigate Birds way overhead, Double-crested Cormorants,... and of course, swallows. Best bird viewing is behind the big air conditioning unit on the north side along the fence near the main building. The Iguanas and their relatives were fun to watch as well. For us the buffets were good for our special diets allowing us to pick and choose. My wife was able to continue her diet and even lost a pound on our vacation. Our walk to the ruins at El Cedro from the Allegro was very enjoyable. It's not too far and if you walk you can go on a path south of the road. Wee saw some local people doing local un-touristy things.
“Enjoyed our stay.”
My wife, daughter, and granddaughter (12) stayed a week in June 2007. Beautiful grounds and very well maintained. Nice beach, clear water, two nice pools. Lots of small children there. Rooms were spotless. Beds very firm, but that's what we like. We ate in the buffet every night. The food was very good, with a nice selection. Different themes on different nights. You have to take a shuttle from the airport, as they don't allow taxis, except those bringing people back. Shuttle cost was $9.00 per person. Returning, unless you prepaid for the shuttle, you had to take a taxi. (Ours was tiny, no A/C, and driven by a madman who wanted more than the fare and the $5 tip. I'd take the shuttle next time, both ways.
“Coz Allegro - Muy Bueno!”
We really enjoyed staying at the Cozumel Allegro, even through it was the off-season and some aspects of the resort (shows, dinner options, activities) were operating on a limited schedule. This is a great casual vacation stay - staff are friendly and accommodating without being demanding or obsequious. You will be assailed with bribes to attend a timeshare option (which you may want to look into - not for me, personally), and with local craft and souvenir salesmen (haggle with them, you can get better prices than you will in town). It's nice to be able to travel light - Rest assured that you can get hooked up with everything you need or that you forgot from the Allegro's shop or from the independent vendors set up at the resort. Do not pass up the opportunity to at least snorkel Palancar Reef. It is simply the best diving in this part of the world. The Allegro resort beach shop can set you up with a cheap "3-reef" snorkeling tour, and you'd be missing out on a big part of your vacation in Cozumel if you didn't check out Palancar Reef.
“Very enjoyable most impressed!!!!”
This was our honeymoon. The hotel staff went out of there way to make it a most enjoyable stay. The hotel and the hotel grounds where very well maintained.I would recommend this hotel to anyone on there honeymoon or to any family!
“Will be back!”
I love it. Everything.. Will go back next year.
