“Great alternative to hotel”

The Kirkland Conference Centre is part of the National Labor College, and is located at Hillandale, just outside Silver Spring in greater Washington. The rooms are comfortable, the staff extremely polite and helpful, and the grounds are fantastic. The surrounding area is very safe. We found the location especially convenient for us, as we had family located a 10 minute bus trip away in the next suburb. For those without cars, like us, access to DC is via Metro bus to either Silver Spring, Fort Totten or College Park Metro stations (15 to 40 mins depending on bus route) then a 10/15 min train ride. Hillandale shopping centre, with supermarket, is less than 5 mins walk from Centre. Only negative is that rooms don't have mini fridges - but they did provide one for us.
