“Great stay”
I traveled with a group of ten. We had a challenge with dinner the first night. It was late and we weren't expected. Food toke about one hour to arrive. The food was ver good. The hotel itself was very nice. The staff very helpful. I made some recommendations and they supported us with that. (Ex. fire alarm rang and then rumor arrived, 'false alarm'. I made the recommendation they make an announcement it was a false alarm and it's safe to return to room. The next day another alarm. This time a second later an announcement came over stating the False Alarm. :) The other sugguestion is a list at front desk of activities in the area. Everyone lives far and no one had any ideas for the community and they recommend to ask for Sharde the next day "she lives in Claymont". I did and she had great suggestions. Hopefully they will make the list. It was a GREAT stay. And of course the shuttle driver was extremely helpful and friendly. Thank you Claymont Crowne Plaza
“Wilmington surprise deal”
Despite the renovation very pleased. Rooms were clean. The "surprise" price was an excellent deal
“Not upto Holiday Inn standard”
If you expect a Comfort Inn or Days Inn type accomodation, it would be fine. However, when you book your stay at a Holiday Inn Select, you expect something more. Also, (perhaps it's just me, but...) I have never before come out of a Holiday Inn thinking that it needs renovation. Although everything appeared to work OK, the appearance (inside and outside) was somewhat stale. Also, after a quick trip to KFC across the street, my wife did not dare to go to any other places nearby.
“Poorly cleaned room which smelled”
toilet was dirty, asked for it to be cleaned and were ignored. Although non-smoking we could smell someone had been smoking in the room before and it had not been dealt with.
“Wait till renovations are done”
The desk staff were friendly but the positives mostly end there. The price paid was relatively high. Given that and the star rating when booked, all compared to the few options nearby that were less expensive and lower rated. I had requested a king at the same rate but got two smaller beds (I'm tall), this was disappointing but not a huge deal. more importantly the bathroom smelled very musty and the toilet appeared to have been used since last cleaning. the finish of the whole room was very warn and somewhat dingy. Downstairs the next morning contractors were moving supplies about with little regard for guests who were checking out - the whole scene was chaotic and not a good end to an otherwise mediocre stay below expectations. I was in a banquet room for the day and the contractor noise was a significant distraction - someone should have let our group know in advance so other arrangements could be made. Local food options are scarce and the un-hotel restaurant appeared nice but seemed expensive (buffet $12), many comparable chains include some breakfast for no charge. I drove to McDonalds. I'm not necessarily cheap, I just think that if I have to pay more for a hotel for a one night business stay the overall experience should be better. Again, the 3 staff I spoke to at different points were very pleasant.
“the hotel was under renovations - no prior notification”
Expedia should have indicated that the hotel was under significant renovations. After a long day of travel, this was a big surprise.
“Terrible management service. Would not go back again!!!!”
During our stay, the hotel held a special for outsiders to attend but not hotel guest. Music was loud and Police had to be called in. No consideration for hotel guests. I had extended our stay and was billed extra. Would let all family and friends know that the hotel stay was horrible.
“Not impressed”
This facility is currently under renovation and all services are centered out of the basement level. The facility is dirty, the elevators are unsafe as the doors close on you before you can fully enter or exit. There were people lingering at the entrance to the temporary front desk and they were using the entrance as a smoking area. I would not recommend this hotel at all during its renovation. The rooms were in a condition that would warrant the renovation.
