Great place to stay near the McCormick convention
Great staff. David was 4stars and nothing less that superb. Friendly knowledgeable efficient. Always available. On the downside the shower was terrible. 3 weak steams of water out of the head left me wanting more. Also I was hot at night. No AC in April, I get it, but I sweltered.

This property is so excellent, old time charm, absolutely beautiful and the caretaker is very nice and great to chat with. Been a couple of times and will definitely be back!

We had a fabulous time. The staff was super friendly and helpful with directions and restaurant suggestions. The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas. What a unique place to stay.

No me vuelvo a hospedar en este hotel. La única vez que la cama estaba hecha fué cuando llegamos, luego de eso no la hicieron más... No limpiaron el cuarto ni un solo día, no cambiaron las bolsas de los basureros... Lo primeros dos dias en la mañana no había desayuno porque el refrigerador estaba dañado... En la reserva era un precio, luego, durante la semana me escribieron que les pagara en efectivo pero al final me cobraron $88 demás y no supe por qué fué... El parqueo es incomodo, no crean todo lo que ven en las fotografías.

Due to Covid restrictions rooms can not be serviced everyday. It’s posted in the hotel. This guest got a free upgraded room. This guest left 3 big hefty bags of trash in room from a 6 day shopping spree. Additional cleaning fees were not charged.

Beautiful old mansion with beautiful renovated guest rooms. The neighborhood has gorgeous old houses as well and felt very safe walking at night. Only complaint would be bed frame is very creaky

Time travel to Chicago’s storied past.
A historic gem, beautifully preserved, in the heart of old Chicago. David looked after us so well and prepared a very nice breakfast. So much to do and see nearby, including the amazing Glessner House.

The building is exactly what you want it to be; a big old grandiose mansion. On the negative side however, the parking isn't obvious and it was almost impossible to understand the staff on the phone when I called and asked where to park. They charged me more than what Orbitz listed and when I asked them about it they blamed Orbitz and said they couldn't fix the price. Also, every chair in the building is horribly uncomfortable to sit in.

We apologize that you were not comfortable with sitting in a chair. After your long out of town drive in traffic. We will look into that issue. The restoration of this property is beautiful. So is the furniture. Our host, David, was very friendly and helpful. Our room with a fireplace was awesome. Everything was great. Celebrated 30 year anniversary with my wife.

Step back into history with all the modern comforts you expect in a luxury property. We loved the spacious living room, the lovely grounds, and the high ceilings throughout the house. It felt like we had they keys to our own mansion for three days! Just steps from the McCormick Place Convention Center, the Wheeler Mansion is a gracious antidote to staying in the soulless mega hotels attached to the convention center.

Good: Stately and elegant facility, beautiful courtyard, friendly and accommodating grounds-keeper, excellent location for our purposes. Bad: TV remote didn't work, leaky faucet, toilet that would not flush, chair leg fell off when we tried to sit on it, smell of gas around the fire place required changing rooms. Conclusion: Restoration was exquisite. Maintenance will hopefully be next in line.

David was very friendly and extremely accommodating. We called to ask if we could park early and he was happy to accommodate us and get us in the room early. Room was very cute, service was excellent, morning breakfast consisted of fruit, yogurt, quiches and sausage. Not your typical depersonalized hotel experience which we loved. Highly recommend and would not hesitate to stay again when coming to Chicago!

It is not worthy to pay that much for the room.(maybe half price would be acceptable )The room was so dark and made me feel not comfortable. And didn’t clean for several days. I would not stay there at all.

Dear Guest, Our rooms have a do not disturb and refresh tag on all interior doors. Thats explained when you check in and if its not used we don't service the room. This Mansion was built in 1870 and is not a brand new hotel that uses hi tech Led lights. We do apologize that you didn't let us know of any issues, we would of taken care of any issues at that time of your stay. Thank you for visiting and we fixed the damage after you checked out.

Wonderful!
I reserved a stay to attend a business function at McCormick Place. Very friendly host for the whole stay. The building inside and out was beautiful. Wonderful breakfast served each morning. This was a gem of a place to stay in. Thank you for the wonderful experience! Highly recommend!

A unique place to stay, just a short walk from the lakefront museums, Grant Park, McCormick Place, etc. We enjoyed a takeout dinner from Lou Malnati’s in the charming back garden during our one night stay.

More of a Airbnb kind of property but historic English property. It was excellent for my purposes to attend a conf at McCormick place. Less than 5 min walk and provided great breakfast with free parking

Well-maintained stately manor
From the moment we checked in we admired the high ceilings, beautiful artwork, gorgeous antique furniture, and stately grace of the Wheeler Mansion. Our host was very gracious, and we were pleased with our room and the overall ambience of the estate. Our bathroom was luxurious and spotless, and the breakfast delicious and filling. We were within easy walking distance of Michigan Avenue and the lakeshore, and the neighborhood was very safe. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Wheeler is 100% full of charm, and a very nice place to stay. But someone needs to put some money back into it. And train staff. During my stay we had some pretty good rain storms, and water came in behind the window and ran out on the sills. They also had some leakage in the main room. One of the antique chairs was soaked through. Service was questionable too. I never had my room cleaned, even after leaving the "refresh" sign on my door. When I checked in, the attendant wasn't very forthcoming with info, including correct time for breakfast and the access code to the internet. I had to call down to get it. Also, she kept my drivers license. And I didn't even notice until dinner that night. Luckily I didn't need it. I got it back that night. Additionally, when I got to my room initially, there were no washcloths, no robe, and old soap shavings in the soap dish in the shower. And, their answer to shampoo is to have a pump bottle on the counter next to the sink. But there is no place to put the bottle in the shower except the soap dish. Which I knocked off and broke it. Breakfast was great one morning, and extremely mediocre the other two. Dry eggs and not so great sausage. Plenty of fresh fruit, but no great breakfast food. Also, they didn't have any creamer, powder or otherwise for the coffee. Just flavored coffee and sugars. All three mornings. And the lighting was pitiful. I don't know how my wife would have put makeup on. I could barely shave.

Dear Mr. Moss, Please accept my apology for the incidents you encountered. We work very hard to make sure all our guests are happy. The Mansion was built in 1870 and now in 2019 we constantly upgrade different things to keep up with the times. We hear your complaints and will address them. The coffee bar is always fully stocked, creamers are behind the sugars in a black container. I will address this also so all guests can clearly see them. Im disappointed that you were not happy with breakfast. Everything is made fresh and hot every morning and this is the first complaint we get this year. I will also address this. Thank you for your feed back. Please stay with us again and accept a free room upgrade. Thank you.

Cool place to stay near convention center
An old mansion turned into a boutique hotel. Beautifully decorated, comfortable rooms, and much nicer than staying in the typical big box hotels. But be prepared for a lower level of service / attentiveness. Couldn’t find anyone to turn in my room key to on leaving at noon. On arrival at noon (2 days earlier) had to call the hotel (note- the phone number given by hotels.com is their own number, and NOT the actual hotel) to be let in. Room was not made up after the first night - I guess because I didn’t hang up the “please freshen room” tag on the knob. Would definitely stay there again if I was going to be busy at the convention center.
