“Oldy but Goody”
nicely renovated older hotel, great location. Great gym, but food quite expensive. Would definitely recommend.
“A Perfect Stay”
We loved our stay at the famous and historical Drake Hotel and can't wait to go back. The beauty was breath-taking and the hospitality was superb; loved the benches in the elevators after a long walk! Everything was wonderful--from our afternoon tea to free music and dancing on Friday and Saturday evenings. In the Gold Coast, it is a perfect location to shopping, food, and sites. Don't bring your car, for parking is expensive; everything is within walking distances, or you can ride a bus or take a taxi. Wouldn't recommend the latter, though, because you can get stuck in traffic and fee just increases while you are sitting there. Preconceived notion of Chicago was false; everyone was so friendly and welcoming, even in the high-end designer stores.
“Friendly And Engaging”
I'm a fan of 'old world' hotels, and whenever possible, I stay in them, so that's why I stayed at 'The Drake.' Very shortly, it was a great experience. Everybody -- the staff, the patrons, even other tourists that were visiting the hotel -- came across as friendly and engaging. My room was enormous and had great light, plus was spotless. I don't have any complaints and would readily stay there again.
“Just fine.”
Excellent location for a weekend in Chicago. Very helpful staff. Close to bus routes but not so much for the trains if you hope to use the CTA to get around.
“A ++”
I had a wonderful time, and the Staff was wonderful, They greet you with a smile, including the guys out side waiting in the cold
“Family Weekend”
We stayed at the Drake for 3 days to celebrate our son's wedding; our new daughter-in-law's family came from out of town and loved their experience of the hotel and Chicago. The staff went above and beyond to help us have the best time. The food at the Cape Cod was wonderful for our group of 10 (including a wedding cake), and we enjoyed having the chef come out to greet us. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet, the bar, & room service. The doormen excelled at their job, opening doors & hailing cabs, answering questions; one went to great lengths to help us retrieve a lost cell phone. The hotel works hard to preserve the grandeur of the old building, adding nice touches such as live harp music in the lounge by the lobby. We also appreciated the view of Lake Michigan from our window.
“Great weekend away!”
Love everything about our stay. Very friendly and helpful staff, wonderful room, great location.
“great place to stay in downtown Chicago”
It was a grand old hotel - beautiful, elegant, comfortable. Our room had a single king bed, desk, desk chair, sitting chair, chest and end tables; large bath room with bath tub and shower as well as sink; closet for clothes and suitcases; large TV (never watched though). The bar, restaurant, check-in, valet parking all great! lots of elevators - never waited. Location is fantastic - right off Michigan Ave, a block away from the John Hancock bldg and the Water Tower shopping bldg.
“Grand old lady”
Not the same spit and polish I remember from staying there 20 years ago, but still a wonderful place. The location is better now than it was then because the city has grown around it.
“Fantastic stay and great staff!”
Fantastic experience! Beautiful hotel and a vary classy feel. The staff was very helpful when I called the next day to explain that I forgot my pillow. They fedexed it out to me immediately! I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone. It is so nice and close to dining as well as some great shopping! We plan on staying at the drake next time we are in town.
