“Quaint adorable option”
MEI is a unique hotel. It takes you back a century. Which is a good thing. Time stands still. You feel at home. Beats any standard Hilton/Hyatt anytime. There was no Wifi in the room, but it's available in the cute lobby, sitting rooms, and library. This will certainly be my choice when I return to Evanston.
“Evanston's best kept secret”
This hotel is a wonderful little gem in the heart of Evanston. It's definitely a classic, European style hotel modeled after old world charm and gives a very warm feeling. The rooms are well kept and the building is gorgeous. The staff are very friendly. The only downside is the elevator is a little hard to get into and out of because of its narrow doorway.
“Great place to stay”
I felt very good with the attitude of the people that work in the hotel. If you can accept the shared bathroom there shouldn't be any reason why you would not like this hotel. It has personality. I can see a couple of things that they could fix but I definitely recommend it.
“awesome and different”
Hotel was great. Different and with history. it's excellent and it has character. the breakfast was great and free. Close to everything and nice restaurants. If you want a different and good experience...
“Would recommend”
Great hotel in central location, had delicious breakfast and spacious room with comfortable bed
“Nice & homey”
The staff is wonderfully friendly and helpful. The free breakfast is quite nice and in a lovely ambiance. This place is for those who want a little character, not the "same old". A lovely spot - I hope to get back!
“Taste of the Old World”
I stayed here for the first time on Sept 4th, 1999 staying for a week before I got my first US apartment. So as I plan to leave the country 12 years later, I thought I would take my wife on a walk down memory lane. I was not disappointed! The Margarita is aged, and has few rooms with en-suite bathrooms, but the staff are super-friendly and the dining room exquisiste, as is the restaurant. The rooms are also sweet, old style and yet not lacking in anything. Recommended highly, especially as it is right in the centre of Evanston, so easy access to Chicago and a direct bus to the airport right there.
“Margarita Inn”
Lovely, old-world style inn that might not be for everyone but I loved it and would stay there anytime I'm in Chicago. Service & staff were great.
“I'll be back!”
What a terrific experience -- like stepping back 100 years into a bygone era. Lovely "drawing room" with fireplace where we enjoyed shortbread cookies and hot chocolate one evening before a roaring fire. Beautiful vintage furniture...very European feeling. Loved the music from the era of the 30's- 40's which played in the background of the parlor. Staff extremely accommodating and friendly Location wonderful for getting around downtown Evanston on foot. Can't wait to go back... Anyone can stay at a chain hotel...this was a SPECIAL experience!
“Stay at Margarita Inn”
I stayed one night at this hotel. it was surprisingly nice hotel for the price. Relatively small and old, but beautifully decorated in European style, and has a elegant italian restaurant in it. Just need to be careful that some of the rooms do not have bathrooms in them and need to use a shared one. But overall, I was very satisfied.
