“Illinois Beach and conference center”
We were disappointed to find out that the pool and the hiking and bike trails were closed. The staff went out of their way to compensate for this disappointment. Dispite our initial frustration over the closures, we were able to enjoy our stay. The view was wonderful!
“More like a hotel then a resort”
Overall I was happy with my stay, but I was expecting it to feel more like a resort then a hotel and it didn't. I would have been much more impressed if they had lounge chairs for the beach or at least beach towels for their guests. The other things I was not impressed with was that the pool was closed, the water pressure was very low in the shower, and the tv was very outdated and some channels were fuzzy. Plus the tv remote didn't work and they had to bring me a new one. The 2 things I was very impressed with was the restaurant and the view of the beach and Lake Michigan. The food was excellent, the staff was very nice, and they had an outdoor area where you can eat. I will go back a second time and see how I like it. I'll go when it's warmer out so we can swim in the lake and not just hang out on the beach and hopefully by then their pool will be open again and the hot tub.
“February 2012 stay”
I stayed here on business. It was a great Expedia deal, and worth it for the price. The food was fantastic in the lobby restaurant, and the view of the water was beautiful. I really could see this being a nice summer weekend getaway. The workout room was very outdated, and could have used some better equipment. The pool was down, so that was disappointing. Overall good friendly service, and a clean room to live...no important complaints.
“A great place for nature lovers and shoppers”
Not luxury class but good deal for a medium cost resort. Building shows age but it is well maintained. Food is good and inexpensive. The beach is a short walk from the hotel and we really enjoyed our morning and evening beach walks. Bargain hunters can explore two big shopping malls a short drive away.
“Beware, there are millions of flies!”
We were puzzled as to why the beach was deserted but we went down to enjoy the day anyway. Then we found out why. It was not only full of rocks but it was infested with BITING FLIES! 5 Seconds after sitting down we had to jump up & stand in the water to stop them but they followed us & landed higher on our legs. I'm talking 30-50 flies on each leg. It was like a horror movie. The front desk offered NO HELP or repellent. Just shrugged their shoulders & agreed that they were bad. The indoor pool had been closed since the spring due to a tornado in Zion. There were holes in the roof and no intention to repair tll next year. There is NOTHING to do at this resort. From the beach we went up to the bar. The bartender is also the server in the restaurant which is always open and empty as well. More servers come in for dinner time and they discuss ways to get the most tips with the least amount of servers. The tail wagging the dog. The food was just ok the service was very slow. They seem to do a great wedding business & people use it as a destination place. Lucky for them they have to leave the following morning. I'm grateful we only had to stay 2 days. The 1 shining star at the front desk was Christopher. He was excellent. This place needs to be purchased by people who actually understand the hospitality industry. We will not go back nor will we suggest this resort to anyone. It's too bad because the place has such potential. We spent our 2 days watching weddings & rehearsals.
“Beach Front Room, 'Not Impressed.'”
The hotel staff were extremely nice and able to upgrade my room to a balcony without the extra charge. With this new room change, we had a wonderful view of the beach and the garden. However, all of the good part stops here. The room was very old and nothing modern about it. The room had a old musty smell and the deco extremely old and outdated. The bathroom was tiny and nothing to look at. The room did not have a microwave or mini fridge. The only positive element about this room is the location. If the trip is planned around spending time at the beach, then this is the place for you.
“need major updating”
i expect at least a star 2 hotel. i was majorly disappointed. the rooms need a total remodeling. i had to switch room because of the mold old smell of the room. the second room was a little better if you dont mind the shower head hanging from the wall. the hotel has potential but i would rate this a possible 2 star only because the food and food sevice was great. the hotel service/management is professional and nice. i wouldnt partically stay here again until renovation of the rooms are done. the lobby is nice and comfortable.
