“Will definitely go back!!”
I've stayed in several hotels in downtown Chicago that are well known. Took a chance on this one and was pleasantly surprised. It will be my first choice from here on out.
“It was okay but....”
I spent what to me is a small fortune for my daughters and I to stay on a once-in-a-lifetime trip. It was just okay. I've stayed at a couple of different hotels in the Chicago area, and while this was located in a pretty good spot, all we saw out our window was the tops of other buildings and at night, the curtains don't close. The sheers do, but not the main curtains and it was BRIGHT! I like a very dark room when I sleep, and this wasn't it. The other doors slamming in the hall are LOUD and my bathtub looked a little creepy with the enamel peeling off. The room was kind of oddly shaped. The hotel itself is little more than a small foyer and then just rooms. And Hoyd's is very expensive...the 3 of us spent $75.00 on a breakfast that was just eggs and bacon.
“Great hotel and great location!”
This was an anniversary trip. Great service from checking in to checking out; the valets were quick and gave great reccommendations; the hotel is steps from shopping on Michigan Ave and close to Art Institute and Millenium Park.
“Would stay again in a heartbeat.”
The hotel was clean and in a fabulous location. My only complaint was that the elevator seemed to take forever.
“Great hotel for business or pleasure!”
Everything's about location, location, location, and this has it! Just down from the intersection of Wacker and Michigan Ave, and across the river from the Trump International. Walking distance to shopping, food, and entertainment. The staff was amazing and so friendly, and ready to accomodate any request I had. The free wireless internet in the room was nice, and I didn't have any problems with speed. The doors do make some noise when they close, so I did notice when others around came back later than I did. The thermostat does not have a temperature selector, therefore the fan is on (with 3 speeds) or off and the temperature is a sliding scale from warm to cold. Accordingly, it was difficult to get a constant temp in the room. However, getting it cooler or warmer took little time at all. Overall, this was a great hotel. I was staying for business (class on Michigan Ave.) but I didn't want the added cost of staying on Michigan Ave. My wife and son joined me at the end of the week and then I was staying for fun. We walked everywhere, but cabs and buses are readily available just outside the front doors. I did not get room service or eat at Hoyd's, but those I spoke with said it was really good. I will be back at Hotel 71 next time I head to Chicago.
“"Home Run"”
I started my hotel search for our company online and found Hotel 71 to be on the lower end price wise but seemed to have very good reviews. After making our reservations through Expedia I found that several more rooms were required along with additional days and schedule changes. Hotel 71 reservations and the front desk personel were able to handle everything that came up without issue. Everyone was delighted with their rooms, views and the resturant selections in the area. We'll be back!
“Ripoff”
Paid a substantial premium for the premier city view. All we got was a view of 15 dumpsters. We were awakened to the sound of a trash truck hauling the trash away in the middle of the night. The hotel said they could not do anything about it. If we wanted better service in the future we should book directly with the hotel and not go thru Expedia. In addition, there was virtually no cable service in the room. We had a selection of 5 tv channels - their response was the room had been recently renovated however you could tell the room was not newly renewed and when pressed they admitted it had been well over a year since the renovation. After complaining they gave us a 15% off coupon for our next visit - who wants to come back when treated in this way! The staff was horrible, lied thru their teeth and frankly didn't give a rip about their service.
“Trendy hotel in a perfect location”
I was on a business trip and other hotels were sold out. This had a great location in the downtown Loop. Upon check-in, I was greeted by someone who asked if this was my first stay. When I mentioned I was a first-timer and would be back for business, I was upgraded to a waterfront view Business Premium room. Excellent service and high-quality amenities! I'll be back.
“Greta place to stay”
Very nice place to stay. location is great. People are very helpful. Rooms are very comfortable.
“Everything Great but the Bathroom”
Everything was great with our stay except the bathroom. A large portion of the tub surface was peeling (revealing bright blue underneath) and there was a huge "spiderweb" crack in the sink. Otherwise our stay was pleasant.
