“Chiang Mai Hotel - as good as it gets”

The Ayatana lies in a quiet neighbourhood away from all tourist traps. It has a nice pool and a good restaurant that serves meals al fresco. We traveled farther north to the golden triangle and could leave two suitcases with the reception for the 4 days without any problem If you want to visit the old city, you need to take a taxi but they are inexpensive. We traveled with our rental car and they provide a free and secure parking.

“Great hotel (with uncertain future)”

Location is great provided one has a scooter. The hotel offers one-way shuttle service into town, but you're on your own for the return trip. Free transportation to and from airport was a welcome courtesy-- as was the free Wi-Fi. Very helpful and courteous staff. Like many hotels in Thailand, however, there is a bit of negligence in terms of overall upkeep. Our room, for example was quite well-tended, but the cushions and furniture in the pool area showed quite poorly. I'm not sure why the staff didn't just stow away the chaise cushions each night... in any event, the lack of upkeep in that area doesn't bode terribly well for the future of this otherwise splendid hotel. It's definitely worth a stay for the next year or two, but how it will hold up after that remains to be seen.

“Needs some upgrades”

Needs minor upgrades to maintain a 4 star rating, such as tv, in room coffee, and minibar. Spa is severely lacking and substandard, much better spas in city at better prices and service.
