This is a real gem in the Heartland. My children live in Cedar Rapids, and I visit frequently. Traveling from Chicago I always disliked my options in this city for weekend visits. I love the hotel at Kirkwood, it is very comfortable, well appointed rooms, and I love sipping a glass of wine in the very comfortable lobby.
The outside patio area is fantastic, staff tries at all levels to be friendly and very accommodating

Really liked the cleanliness, access to business we were visiting, Great beds, Great Pool , great workout room( just a bit warm for my tastes) Nice breakfast. The staff were very polite and friendly. We stayed just one night.
Honestly, I chose it because it had a pool and was fairly inexpensive. There was some wear on the carpets and the halls didn't look all that great. The room, however, was great. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was the cleanest I have ever seen a hotel bathroom. No joke. It was so clean that I noticed it, which I don't normally do...unless it's really bad.
The BEST part of the stay was the staff. Toni, the employee who checked us in was wonderfully friendly. She was accomodating in every way, and very pleasant. When I checked in, I told her the reason for my stay. Later, she remembered not only me, but why I was there. Her manager was equally friendly. I just cannot say enough about how nice they were. I would stay there again! And also, there are some great restaurants nearby!
I liked the closeness to the airport. I chose it because I could not get the convention rate at the Hilton Hotel downtown, so I found this hotel close to the airport at a good price. I had to arrive a day early because of my flight schedule. Choose this hotel if you cannot get into your regular convention hotel.
Set downtown just blocks from the Cedar River is the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, with over 5,600 pieces of art that include the world's largest collection of works by Cedar Rapids' own Grant Wood. Across the river is Veterans Memorial Stadium--home to the Cedar Rapids Kernels baseball team--as well as the Czech Village, an area centered around the city's Czech, Moravian, and Slovak heritage.
