My wife and I spent a lovely weekend in the City for our Anniversary and stayed at the Larwill Studio. The staff were fantastic - polite, helpful, efficient and concise. The room was really nice, it was quirky enough without feeling like you were part of an arthouse movie and well appointed. Being on the tram line allowed us to park the car at the hotel and just jump in an out of the city when we felt like it. I was also impressed that even though the hotel was part of the Royal Children's Hospital, it was quiet and peaceful.
Very convenient location, right at the end of Lygon street cafes, within short walking distance to CBD free zone tram and attractions.
There had been some intial misunderstanding about the parking charge, but the reception lady take care of that in less than 1 minutes and all is good.
Very close to the famous lygon street and walking distance to CBD. Positioning is perfect.
Also we were very impressed with the cleanliness of the room.
The room isnt big (we stayed at the cheapest room maybe that's why!) but We felt very comfortable. They had everything we wanted. Swimming pool was very small! Great for kids! In case if you are interested:)
Not bad, but more like a motel than a hotel. E.g. food was bad. Lasagne was served cold in the centre. No room service except for breakfast, but even then coffee was served in a takeaway cup. Otherwise a pleasant place to stay if you don't mind the lack of amenities.
Stayed here for 2 nights in room 338 :) hotel is new and clean. The room (queen bed) is clean and comfortable for 2. Toilet is spacious with rainshower and hair dryer. There's no fridge and kettle, but you can refill your bottles at the laundry. Little noise from the trams, but the water pipes were a little noisy at night. Expect to hear a little noise from your neighbours closing their doors as well. Overall, a great stay for a few nights! Cleanliness is a big thing for me and it cost less than 100aud/night during this period. My package comes with wifi and tv.

Everything was of a high standard, except parking could be a problem if arriving late also we had a 4WD and the height into the carpark was very very tight, didn't cater for this type of Vehicle but we fitted. TV mounted on the wall was a little high to watch sitting in the chairs, could not fault the cleanliness or the comfort, would stay and recommend to any one wanting everything at their disposal, like FOOD, Wine Taxis...

The room was clean and tidy. Bathroom had a good shower but was a little tired. It is very close to Victoria market, a short walk to the city and the tram is right outside.
There is a small shop next door, cafe open til 2am and an Aldi supermarket a stroll away so very convenient for everywhere. Our room was warm without having to use the heater even though it was cold outside.
We were happy with the kitchenette in our room. We felt the hotel was good for what we had paid which was very reasonable. Would recommend and stay again ourselves.
If you're helping someone settle in to U Mel, or even RMIT, this is a great place to stay. Its a short walk 15 min to U Mel, and very near Lygon Street with lots of food and essentials (Woolsworth). If you don't mind walking (i enjoy) its a 25 mins walk down to the City, where Melbourne Central, RMIT and lots more shopping and food. Otherwise get a Myki card (use Myki money for short stays) to travel from the trams to and fro (take them from along Swanston St).
Staff are very friendly and great. IMPORTANT NOTE : for first timers, do note that this place is Locked and there will be no staff after 6pm (check the fine print when you book). Staff will gladly give you the hotel passcodes to unlock the doors when you arrive late for check in. DO REMEMBER THAT before arriving!
An inner-city suburb, Carlton is known as Melbourne's 'Little Italy.' Lygon Street is the hub of Italian tradition, lined with a plethora of cafés, European cake shops, gelaterias, trattorias, and fine Italian restaurants. The area is also home to well-preserved examples of Victorian architecture and the World Heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens.
