“A Perfect Place to Stay in SA's "Napa Valley"”
Fantastic stay! We were greeted by a warm and inviting staff, and quickly escorted to our room. We didn't book a room with a balcony, which I highly recommend, but it was a last minute booking. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with windows that not only looked upon the gorgeous mountains that tower over the hotel, but also OPEN (don't get me started on hotels with windows that don't open). The grounds of the hotel are a haven. Perfectly manicured lawns and gardens greet you wherever you walk, and the verandas are heavenly for lounging. My wife took advantage of the spa for a massage and rated it one her TOP THREE massages at a spa...and she visits a LOT. The highlight of our stay, however, was the meal at Dish, the hotel's restaurant. Chef Oliver competes quite handily against the 'big boys' of the Franschhoek area with a menu full of fresh, local produce and sustainable meats and fish. He did a Chefs Tasting Menu for us and it ranks as one of the best meals we had in SA (and we ate at some of the TOP places). It may be hard to dine at the hotel restaurant for most (due to the reputation of most hotel restaurants), but toss that aside and dine at Dish!
“Five star but not six”
Beautiful hotel highly recommended but a few gremlins... no hot water on second day, forgot to supply towels, aircon blew up - but the this is Africa and it may have just been bad luck on our part. Overall a good experience. On a positive note it has the BEST turndown service of any five star hotel , and I have been to a quite a few. I would go again.
“South Africa and computers”
Le Franschhoek is a lovely hotel although a bit far out of town. The reception staff seem chaotic - we were given two rooms next door to each other (their words). Each was accessed by its own staircase - we could have banged on the wall! The computer was down for the whole of our three day stay! Not good enough for a 5 star establishment. We were given two standard rooms having paid for one room and one suite and there was no way they would contact you to sort out a refund.
