Such a warm and lovely place. Rooms were immaculate and each has its own charm and decor. Owners were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast perfect. Loved the robes! Great location near UCT and felt very safe. One of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed.

Yves and Valerie are the consummate hosts. This was our first trip to South Africa and Yves and Valerie made it a stress free experience. Their kindness and welcoming nature provided a comfortable, warm atmosphere that made us feel at home. It began before we arrived when Yves sent us options for restaurants and offers to help with rentals. We traveled over Christmas and I'd made reservations at a local restaurant for Christmas Day, unbeknownst to me the restaurant was closed. Yves found out and went out of his way to make another reservation for my family. His thoughtfulness and attention to his guests is what you can expect. In addition, I thought it would be nice if my family woke up on Christmas morning to find stockings hung from the fireplace. It was an odd request, but I asked if Valerie or Yves could help out with my 'surprise'. Valerie kindly found stockings and put them together. What a wonderful surprise for my family on Christmas morning. The house and grounds are beautiful and recently renovated after a terrible fire in 2019. The adornments and old world charm of the house transport you to a different time. Breakfast was always delicious, especially the croissant that are specially shipped in from France. The pool and gardens are exquisitely maintained by Yves. If you are looking for a get-away where you'll be sure to be treated well, look no further than the Carmichael House and the hospitality of Yves and Valerie.

Dear Claus, Thank you very much for your review. We are happy to know that you've enjoyed your stay with us. We're a small guest house, and unlike hotel, have a small housekeeping team. We are often squeezed between late check outs and early check ins requests, which is rather challenging. But since we don't do things half way, we only hand over a room to guests once we are absolutely sure it's spotless, which is one of the reasons we are known for: our cleanliness! We are exactly 8 km away from the city centre, and it can take anything between 7 to 60 min to do the same distance, depending of the time of the day. I am sorry to hear that you must have been through high traffic hours. It's been a pleasure hosting you. Best regards

Charming and cozy
I had a wonderful experience at Carmichael Guesthouse and would stay here again. The staff were very helpful before I arrived with helping me to arrange tours. I loved being away from the hustle and bustle of downtown in a quieter neighborhood in a charming house full of history. I felt very well taken care of and hope to come back someday.

Ideal Location
Well after visiting over 60 countries this is the first review i have left, this house was beautiful laden with Victorian features, the owners are possible the friendliest i have encountered and go out of there way to make sure u have bookings and other trips fully planned. We will be visiting again by the end of the year and without a doubt we will be staying here, in fact this stay actually made our entire visit memorable Malcolm and Fon

We loved every minute of our stay at Charmichael Guesthouse!!! Every detail of the property from the gardens to the guest rooms were perfectly thought out and exquisitely decorated in a Colonial yet modern style. Our room was absolutely massive with a beautiful high ceiling, it had everything you’d need and we have nil complaints about it! Breakfast was awesome - full continental spread which was divine along with a cooked breakfast of your choice - class! Finally, our hosts were amazing!!! They are a lovely couple who can’t do enough for their guests - sometimes hosts are overbearing or completely non-present, but these guys struck the balance just right! They helped us book tickets for table mountain, sorted us dinner reservations and even checked us into our flights and printed off our boarding cards so we could have an extra half hour in bed - I can’t speak highly enough of them! I’m sure you get the drift, but if you stay here I guarantee you won’t be disappointed! We’ll definitely be back!!!

Fantastic if only...
The guest house is old and beautiful and it was a pleasant experience all around if only the queen bed was more comfotable. The matrass was so hard we rolled around for 2 hours before falling asleep. Change that and I’ll give it full marks.

The Carmichael House exceeded our highest expectations in every way. Yves communicated w/me answering various questions we had about Cape Town, before we left Seattle. Upon our arrival our hosts, Yves and Valerie, arranged for our pickup at the airport which alleviated all concern about what to do and how to travel to their guest house. Once there, we were made to feel welcome and comfortable in our spacious, lovely en suite room overlooking their garden. The immaculate Victorian house is at once elegant and cozy. The hosts have considered every detail to make their guests feel at home yet afford them plenty of privacy and independence. A delicious bottle of S. African wine was waiting for us in our room to celebrate our arrival. Yves and Valerie helped inform us of the many sights and sites that we could enjoy while visiting this amazing South African city. They were always available to answer any questions we might have about locations and directions to places of interest. Their breakfasts are fit for royalty. We sat admiring the garden while we enjoyed fresh baked croissants (from France!), homemade fresh rolls, bread, muffins, jams and marmalade, two eggs any way you like them, with bacon or sausage, and baked tomatoes, fresh fruit compote, and so much more plus coffee or tea--EVERY DAY, served on white table cloths in a charming sun room.

Beautiful and friendly place
Stayed for a week at this hotel and it was a great experience. The guesthouse is charming and really feels like a home. Rooms are individually decorated and the beds are really comfortable. The host couple were very nice and extremely helpful, suggesting activities, sights and sorted out car rentals etc. Felt really sad at time of check out.

Great B&B with amazing owners
This has been a very very brilliant experience. Carmichael House is a lovely place with excellent owners who also run the place. The location is superb being very close to UCT, Riverside mall and Cavendish amongst others. The breakfast spread is great offering both continental as well as hot dishes. And of course lots of fruit. Highly highly recommended to all.

Guest comes first at this Guesthouse
When you travel a lot, sometimes your experiences tend to get lost in the fog of it all.... This trip was different for us - and it was entirely the fault of Yves and Valerie! While this was our fourth trip to Cape Town, it was the first time we felt like we were coming home. Carmichael is much better than just a guesthouse - it is a local home away from home. The facilities, the rooms and the breakfasts were of course outstanding. But rarely do you find such a warm and welcoming environment. In fact, we were disappointed when we would come home and they weren't there to greet us (probably because they were taking care of all the others - Carmichael is a very popular place). Rondebosch is a fantastic base and it was extremely easy to get to anywhere from there - and the Guesthouse was even within walking distance of our favorite steakhouse - the Hussar Grill, which is well worth a long detour! Thanks Yves and Valerie for a great visit!!

O ponto mais forte do hotel é o dono. Ele é extremamente atencioso e procura agradar. O café da manhã é ótimo. As roupas de cama também são muito boas. Não gostamos muito do quarto em si. Era um quarto para 4 com 2 ambientes, uma pequena saleta e 1 banheiro. O banheiro muitas vezes exalava cheiro forte de esgoto (retorno de gases). E nos quartos não havia ar condicionado, como estava no verão, passamos calor à noite. O armário era muito pequeno e antigo. Sentimos falta de mais espaço para guardarmos nossas roupas. Acabamos deixando tudo na mala.

The Family Suite you stayed in has a main bedroom with a wardrobe, a cupboard and a dressing table, offering decent space to store both clothes, shoes and other belongings. There is another wardrobe in the secondary bedroom with 4 drawers, offering additional space. They are indeed all vintage furniture, matching the Victorian style of the guesthouse, which is highly appreciated by most of our guest. I am sorry that the toilet has had some reflux, this was most certainly due to the high temperatures we experienced during your stay. Had you mentioned this during your stay, I would have immediately attend to this. We seldom experience high temperatures at night, and if we don't have air conditioning to preserve the aesthetics of the building, we have recently added a high velocity fan in this Family Suite. With such high ceilings, fans are in fact far more efficient than air conditioning. I trust that you've had a nice stay in Cape Town. Best regards / Yves

Fantastic!
I was in a trip with my family and spent 7 nights there. All was perfect - the room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was one of the best we could expect with a huge variety of bread and fruits and on top of that you com order very tasty pancakes, eggs with sausage, etc. The house itself is also very beautiful but the high point were Valery and Yves who are the owners and are present there all the time to help us with the breakfast, with important tips on the tours we organized ourselves. Yves even helped me with an issue I had with my car rental company! There are only 4 places to park the car inside the property but I parked mine many times on the street, which is a cul de sac, and had no issues, looks very safe. Only internet did not work well all the time but this was insignificant given all the other positive points.

Our 4 bay parking can usually accommodate everyone, even large vehicles such as 4x4 or eveb minibus combis. On rare occasions, some vehicles will have to park safely alongside our small dead end. Even though we were experiencing some issues with our wifi during your stay, it's now all sorted. Das Haus ist sehr gepflegt und mit viel Liebe zum Detail ausgestattet. Unser Zimmer war riesig, der Garten ist wunderschön und lädt zum Verweilen ein. Das Beste sind die Gastgeber, die mit viel Engagement und Liebe das Haus führen, das zeigt sich überall: im Garten, im Zimmer und auf dem dekorierten Teller mit den Spiegeleiern.

ウォーターフロントからは少々離れますが、高級住宅街のようなエリアにあるゲストハウスで治安の心配はない印象です。 徒歩圏内にスーパーやKFCがあったので、軽い買い物も事足ります。 写真の通りの素敵なお部屋や美味しい朝食、ふかふかのベッドで滞在を楽しめました。 ツアーの手配や空港送迎、早朝出発時の朝ご飯のパックなど至れり尽くせりでした。 またケープタウンに行く機会があれば、ぜひ泊まりたいです。

Lovely guesthouse out of victorian times
The guesthouse is run by a lovely Swiss couple. They and their team are absolutely nice people that provide great service and support. The building is from victorian times and much is preserved until today which gives it the special charm you are looking for. It is located near the university. This is not super close to the Waterfront but with a taxi it just takes you 20 minutes to get there. The room I had was big with two beds and a sofa. Beds were comfortable with a big selection of pillows to fit your needs. The rooms contains a variety of electricity sockets so that you most likely will not need adapters.The bathroom was nice and clean providing a shower and bathtub. Breakfast is being served in a wintergarden. Selection is nice with home made marmelades and a big menu for omlettes, eggs, local sausage, etc..

Valerie und Yves waren für fünf Tage wunderbare und aufmerksame Gastgeber, die jeden Tag unaufdringlich mit Tipps zur Verfügung standen. Restaurantempfehlungen und -Reservierungen und Taxi-Buchungen waren eine Selbstverständlichkeit Sehr geräumiges und sauberes Zimmer (Nr.1) im Erdgeschoss . Gastvrij hotel
Gastrvrije eigenaren die er alles aan doen om je verblijf in Kaapstad leuk te laten zijn. Goed advies en tips waarnaar toe te gaan. schoon en goede bedden.

Nice colonial hotel.
Had a great time. The owners and staff are very friendly. The atmosphere is very warm. I can really recommend this hotel to anyone.

À recommander et à ne pas manquer !
Yves et sa charmante épouse Valérie sont des personnes très agréables et accueillantes. Ils sont à l'écoute et de très bon conseil ; ils parlent le français (de part leur origine), ce qui est confortable. La maison, de style victorien, est exceptionnellement belle. Notre chambre (la 5) était immense et la salle de bain élégante. Tout est soigné dans le détail, rien ne manque jusqu'aux petits bonbons déposés à notre attention sur la cheminée. Le jardin est une merveille, nous avons eu le bonheur de prendre le petit déjeuner sous les arbres. Le petit-déjeuner est excellent : excellents croissants, toasts et pain de mie complet, amandes, confitures, beurre, café, chocolat, lait,thé, excellents jus de fruits, salade de fruits frais etc... L'ensemble de la maison est d'une propreté remarquable et "sent bon le propre" (ce qui est particulièrement rare). Je ne peux que recommander cet établissement qui mérite ses 4 étoiles ! Merci encore à Yves et Valérie pour leur charmante hospitalité.

とっても親切で素敵な御夫婦が経営されています！建物もお庭も素晴らしい！ お部屋も本当に快適です。 朝食も本当に美味しくて、こんなに快適なゲストハウスは本当に感動。 是非また滞在したい最高のお宿です。

Utrolig hyggelig vertskap
Veldig sjarmerende og hyggelig sted. Vertskapet var utrolig forekommende og behjelpelige med alt. Frokosten var god. Det eneste å utsette var at det var kaldt på badet, men ettersom det ikke finnes ovner må man regne med det på denne tiden av året.Ypperlig beliggenhet i forhold til UCT. Stedet anbefales på det varmeste.
