Excellent option outside the hotel zone

Posted 18-Feb-2014
We booked Terracaribe based on user reviews as we were looking out for a place to rest our heads in between our "planned" vacation to Cancun. Turned out to fr exceed our expectation Pros: - Far away from the hotelzone, close to Cancun Downtown - get a "fairly real" taste of everyday Mexico. Easy access to almost all transport options, buses, cabs and the ferry - Excellent and helpful staff - especially the person who manned the desk in the evenings and our friendly cook - Superb hot breakfast in the morning - Cons: - Room could get stuffy even with AC running, but easily fixed by opening the windows and using the ceiling fan instead

Great for night before or after flight if needed.

Very clean, very helpful, newly remodeled. Location isn't great…feels like you're in the middle of neighborhood far FAR from the beach, but if price is keeping you from the main area, this is a VERY clean place to stay. We didn't walk around at night (and we do spend a lot of time in non tourist areas of Mexico), but that was at the advice of people who lived nearby. You could easily stay here and travel to the beach/clubs and come back to sleep in your VERY clean room. The staff was super!!

What you'd expect for the price

Staff could never give you a straight answer. I can only assume they've had some encounters with angry customers in the past and are afraid of confrontation. When they should have said no they said maybe then they would avoid contact until you forgot or just gave up. Our safe wouldn't work so we called the front desk. They had a maintenance personnel to our room quick fast and in a hurry. He looked at the safe and said he'd be right back. We waited around for 30min then went and sat in the lobby. The guy at the front desk said, "he must be looking for something". We never saw him until the next day and it was in passing. The safe never got fixed. Hot tub was freezing. The area is a little sketchy, but that was my favorite part. I love to travel and I don't enjoy the touristy areas. The street food and surrounding restaurants we amazing. All locals and no tourist, plus excellent service. I'd recommend some spots, but I'd rather keep it a secret. I would stay at Terracaribe again my wife might not agree.

Depends in your visit

For me the stay was just a stopover for a night before heading off to Yucatan. The room was clean but bare. The a/c worked well. The hot water was great and the pressure was excellent. They didn't have breakfast, the wifi was quite spotty in the room, and they couldn't change my u.s. Dollars to pesos. Overall, a good place to stay for a night - the price was reasonable for the accommodations.

what to expect

Posted 27-Dec-2013
Pros: staffs are very kind and helpful at your will
Cons: Wifi in the picture area tends to go off frequently depending the weather but lobby area works fine
Location: It is at downtown, you have to go out to eat all the time not a lot of place to eat nearby per se but definitely cheap place to stay compare to zone
you can expect exactly what is shown in the picture even though it says hotel. It is more like motel albeit at a hotel like services. The staff is really nice and helpful The fact that hotel is located at downtown makes you save a lot of money You can take 'combie', 'bus' 'cab' to anywhere nearby at a cost of 7 9 25 pesos respectively I have done only 1 tour through the hotel = trip to Chichen Itza It costed me 50 $ (20 $ worth up front to hotel and 30$ to the meeting place in hotel zone) I estimated visiting the place on my own but actually it is about same and through tour you get lunch and guide. If you know spanish or practicing them it would be good chance to try them out. I am not sure about other tours but normally going places through tour you are paying the commissions But overall, you will find the place enjoyable The only thing bad is that you have go out searching for food. It is good and bad at the same time but I didn't mind particularly
