Simple but great hotelPosted 25-Nov-2013
It's not fancy but has all that is needed. If you're not looking for all inclusive then I would definitely recommend it. The restaurant on site has very good and inexpensive food.

Nice non inclusive hotelPosted 3-Nov-2013
This is not a all inclusive resort. However this is a very nice very reasonably priced hotel. The staff is very friendly they have a small grill in the back with a view of the lagoon which is nice - not as nice as the ocean but for the cost of the room its nice. They have basic rooms or for a little more you can get a room with a kitchen and dinning table which is nicer. the grill opens a 7 am serves breakfast lunch and dinner to 7 afternoon average price per meal is like 5.00 us very cheap in cancun. I have been visiting cancun for 8 years and at first I would stay in the resorts. But I found this hotel a few years back and I stay there each time I visit now. However I am single and like to explore the area I always rent a car. If you have a family with children and don't want to explore on your own ie visit the ruins or drive around downtown cancun - you will need a map if you drive downtown for first time a few crazy intersections different from the US and its easy to get turned around If unfamiliar. The resorts are probably easier for a family. But if you are on a tight budget and single or couple and are adventurous then this is the best small hotel you can find near the hotel zone. just a block around the corner is a laundry mat- you drop your clothes off they give a ticket charge by the weight and you pick up a few hours later. There is a little restaurant a pharmacy and a grociery store all reasonably priced all next to each other 5 minute easy walk

ok stay .. disappointedPosted 16-Oct-2013
Pros: the view was nice.
Cons: over priced and not very clean
Location: location is ok if you have a car to get around
Grand Royal Lagoon The stay was ok at best. Internet connection comes and goes. Bed are like rocks, pillows had odor to them, had to ask for room to be cleaned every day of stay and it was after 3pm each time. View of lagoon is nice, cantina closes too early like 5 or so. Breakfast was way over priced for 2 that consisted of bacon and eggs and a slice of toast and only one coffee, did not learn until later you are charged individually for each thing and was not given a reciept or change. Manager is pleasant, however when complained about breakfast and how charged and no reciept or change he advised us the next day free however he was not true to his word, he actually came to the cantina when breakfast was over had waitress bring us the bill and a reciept printed that day for the day before and the change that was owed from the day before. If I had to do over again I would go to starbucks and get GOOD coffee and a breakfast sandwich for us both for less than what we were charged for one breakfast, seriously over priced comparable to 5 star hotels prices for food and the food is not very good. Maid service speaks no english at all, cantina broken english at best. TV was blurry. All in all was ok if just sleeping there then doing the tourist thing. My wife was ok with everything but I personally will look for other arrangements in the future for us. It used to be under different management and we stayed there a few times and all went very nicely, but under new management now and the employees spend a lot of time chatting instead of working, also note that birds fly onto tables and bar and crap on them and when the wait staff clean it up they never wash their hands after. If you dont eat there and just sleep then this would be cost effective.

More than adequatePosted 26-Aug-2013 on Hotels.com
I was mostly pleased by my stay at this hotel. The pool was nice. A good view across the lagoon. They were responsive to complaints, swapping out my TV when it when done. In-room wireless internet is almost non-existent. I was only able to connect poolside. The room was clean and the aircon worked so mostly pretty good value.

one night stayPosted 13-Aug-2013 on Hotels.com
My stay at Grand Royal Lagoon Hotel in Cancun was okay for the price I payed. The room was small but clean. I only spent a few hours at the hotel, but I was able to enjoy the small swimming pool. The hotel was far away from the other main hotels, but it was close to a small restaurant, and a pharmacy.

Clean cute simple hotel in zona hoteleraPosted 16-Jul-2013
Pros: Clean, small pool, service, a cute restaurant by the lagoon.
Cons: Better tv, better ac, smells humidity at night.
Location: Not much around, beach tortuga about 10 min walk or party area blvd about 30 min walk but at night is dark and you should take a taxi better.
Clean small hotel room in zona hotelera (bed, tv, bathroom and ac) the main street for the Cancun party zone blvd by cocobongo is like 30 min walk or take the bus or taxi. At night there is not a single store open around this hotel so if you are in a budget i will recommend it and say go for it. It is really clean by the lagoon, if you want to go to the beach you have to walk about 10 min across the street. I normally don't stay in Cancun and prefer isla mujeres (which is a beautiful island 20 minutes from Cancun) so this hotel was perfect for me to spend the night close to the ferry in playa tortuga but if you want to stay in Cancun and party maybe you can have some more options "of course for more money" but like I said if you are in a budget this is a good option it is pretty clean and close enough to the party area.

Good hotel!!! not for people expecting 5star!Posted 28-Jun-2013 on Hotels.com
This hotel was nice! Clean, had a pool, massive comfy bed. Location is ok, closest to the main area that you will find without spending a lot!. 20min walk to beach and main clubs/resterants. It was clean, receptionist although didn't speak brilliant English was very helpful to order us food and taxi. (Do not order take out from h****s, late and wrong food) overall the cancun area though very expensive! Everyone has all inclusive and no reason to leave their hotel so you will struggle to find budget resterants etc unless you go downtown which is a good 45min walk. But if you have money 2 min walk from the hotel and you start to reach the 'tourist' area. Only bad thing is you get the smell of the lagoon a bit (eggy smell) and yes the building is a bit rough on the edges, but what do you expect. It serves its purpose and in the rooms is nice. Also the pool looked nice although I didn't have time to swim in it. I am fussy when choosing hotels and this one is fine, hope this helps.

Cheap Option. Good for the money.Posted 10-Jun-2013
Pros: -Cheap -Clean -Pretty accessible -AC and pool -lagoon view/quiet
Cons: -Internet connection -Use of room phone (you have to call to reception to get connected to an outside number and you cannot do any international)
Location: -15 minute walk from main tourist area -walking distance from multiple local beaches -supermarket nearby
We got an incredible deal on this hotel as part of an expedia package. The hotel is a 15-20 minute walk from the main tourist part of Cancun (where all the bars/nightclubs are). The walk is easy but one can also get a bus that comes very very frequently for under a dollar. Continental breakfast is included with the room (you can also order more food at a small additional cost). The room was basic but we got 2 beds, tv, ac, minifridge and clean bathroom. So pretty much what we expected. There is free wifi... but the connection is spotty. There is a pool area which is quite nice, definitely not luxurious, but works for lounging in the sun and then taking a dip. There is a supermarket right around the corner which is super convenient to pick up snacks, water, beer etc. There are also several local casual restaurant places nearby. Overall, this place is super basic and has some quirks, but if you're not gonna swing for an all-inclusive and try to do this on the cheap, this place is good. Hopefully, next time I go to Cancun I will have more money, but if I don't I will stay here again!
