“very good hotel for budget traveler”

we spent 4 night at the Grand Royal Lagoon before going back home. We were with our 2 kids. The service was excellent, everyone was very nice with us, the room was very clean even if the furniture was a little bit old. the food at the snak bar was awesome. For the price I would recommend this Hotel without thinking twice.

“Stayed Dec 2009”

For the price I was not picky. It had a nice bed, fridge, TV, breakfast at 7:30 am, a pool, internet and a stand up shower. Right around the corner was tacos for 15 pesos a grocery store and pharmacy. Bus stop was located in front of the El Presidente (both directions 3 min away) 10-15 min walk to the action.( Senior frogs,Coco Bongo, Flea Market, banks etc etc.

“Grand royal lagoon”

after reading some comments, I wondered if I made the right choice. The hotel is fine, if you don't expect miracles. for the price, location and cleanliness it easily bypasses a lot of other hotels with 4 star rating. Go for it, you'll be glad you did.

“Good for the Price”

The Good - Property fronts directly onto the lagoon, which makes for nice ambiance when having breakfast or drinks at the outdoor bar. - Clean and tidy place, also staff were helpful and friendly. - Menu was reasonably priced and the lady in the kitchen appears to make everthing just at time of ordering. The Not As Good - Don't expect fancy schmancy, this place is probably at least a couple decades old and is showing some age, but still seems well maintained, clean and comfortable. - A bit musty, but in a trpoical climate and on the water you get that in just about any place that's not brand new (just throwing this point in so noone's surprised). - Being on business, I had some things to take care of on the morning of checkout. I arrived back at the hotel about 5 minutes past check out time to find my room already being processed for re-occupancy, despite my not having checked out. It felt rushed in that regard, which I didn't expect in a generally relaxed place like Cancun.

“Okay Budget Hotel”

Basically, you get what you pay for. Pros - Pretty good price - walking distance to club zone (~1.2 km) - pretty clean - nice little pool - had vendors with cheap quesadillas and fish tacos, and also a supermarket 1 block from hotel - useful safety deposit box in room - wireless internet was functional, but would often cut out. - TV had a couple of english movie channels. Cons - beds were hard as a rock, but surprisingly still slept okay - only had overhead lighting in room which was "harsh" not a very inviting spot to spend time. Luckily, I paid the 10 bucks to upgrade and got a room with a nice balcony overlooking the pool to hang out. - only had a door separating rooms on both sides. Noise suppression pretty much none existent, could hear everything going on in either room, particularly loud tv. - If you are not in a hotel directly on the beach, there are specified public accesses to the beach (unless you cut through a hotel). Nearest access was 1-1.5 km away. Overall, the stay was okay, if I had to do it again I would probably spend the extra money to get a more comfortable room with easier access to the beach

“Good hotel if you wanna travel on the cheap...”

The location of this hotel was extremely convenient, considering the price paid. The hotel is not recent, but the rooms are keep very cleans. I am paranoid about bed bugs from previous experiences, and this place was spotless. The only thing that really irritated be was how humid the rooms were. It was as though the air conditioning was pumping humidity into the room. My baseball cap became wet (literally soaked) during the night (every night) when left out on the night table. Needless to say, sleeping in equally moist sheets is not all too desirable. However, the inexpensive food at the hotel and location more than made up for the humidity situation. This is the Caribbean after all! Also, I felt very safe walking from the main downtown area and back to the hotel alone at night. Would recommend to those wanting to visit Cancun and not pay the 'Cancun' rate! Oooh- the hot showers were amazing!

“Small, clean, good; would stay here again”

I liked the GRL. Its a small hotel but is good value. My room and bathroom were very clean, the pool and grounds were well kept. Staff I dealt with were friendly and helpful. Liked sitting dockside and having a drink. Liked having stores and sidewalk resturants nearby. A longer walk to the entertainment district and beach. Used the local bus to get around, used the shared shuttle from the airport. Some minor problems- my room card would act up occassionally, dock boards are rough, old bedspread in my room, no alarm clock or table light. Like my stay, would stay here again.

“Clean, basic”

Don't expect Western standards, like shampoo/conditioner in your hotel room (you are lucky to get soap). But it's clean, and has a great location (not on the beach but you are still in the Hotel Zone and can walk there in half an hour), so if you are looking for a basic motel then this is the place to go.
