15 minute's walk from the town centre, this old hotel is the kind of budget place a backpacker would enjoy. Most of the amenities are dated, there is certainly no air conditioning (so be wary of that in Summer), and the bathroom is incredibly tiny, so much so that the basin is actually outside the bathroom in the main room. That being said, we had the family room, which had two single beds and a double, so our room was actually really large. You wouldn't get much privacy from whoever you're sharing the room with though, so make sure your well acquainted, as you can't dry off in the bathroom after a shower because of the lack of space and it is rather uncomfortable sitting on the toilet with the door closed given it's literally inches from your face. Consider this like renting a room in someone else's house but with your own private bathroom.

Tired looking bnb.
Room very tired looking. Vinyl flooring felt a bit sticky underfoot. Cobwebs to both corners of the windows. Kettle water not emptied before arrival. Tv remote had lots of ingrained dirt & I cleaned it thoroughly myself before using Shower ok but rain shower attachment dripped pink algae blobs due to not being cleaned properly. Bed mattress very soft but comfortable. Headboard very stained. Room was quiet. Did not stay for breakfast. Being Cambridge you pay for what you get I suppose.

Owner lovely, but misleading initial photo
Owner was lovely however....I use Hotels.com about 4 times a week for business and after 10 stays at hotels I receive a free stay complimentary for the sum of the average hotels stayed at -this is usually about £75-£95 worth of complimentary hotel stays twice every six weeks It costs me over £1000 to receive this and I look forwards to using them, feels like a nice little rebate. My grievance on this particular occasion is that often when in Cambridge, hotels can be difficult to find for an acceptable amount, often some can be £150-£200 each night. On this occasion I accept it was getting near 8pm and I was worn out and had been trying to source a hotel for about 90 mins. What really gets me here is that the first photo to come up is the picture of what looks like a country house manor type hotel and in fact it says property grounds. After searching for so long I admit I didn't go into too much detail and check but on that first impression, and last minute, I thought it ideal, and booked, using my free night which was for the value of £82 but the hotel cost a little of £65. When the confirmation came through I was shocked and dismayed that I then saw what looked like a run down BandB. I understand who it caters for, but the initial photo massively mis-represents Bed clean but uncomfy and bathroom is tiny and a partitioned after thought. Also the floor was wet underneath the lino, not pleasant at all

A little gem.
What I can say. I have stayed in a variety of establishments in Cambridge and none and I mean none have had a breakfast more delicious and filling as this one. Andrew and his wife are very attentive hosts and nothing seems to much trouble. Really enjoyed my stay.

I didn’t enjoy it at all. I booked a twin room and paid it prior to arrival, yet on the reception I was asked to pay additional £10, because I wasn’t going to be alone in a twin bedded room.

You booked a twin room for SINGLE occupancy You got upset when we ask you to pay the room for double occupancy since you were going to be two persons in the room. (an extra £10.00. This is nothing to do with us You made the booking yourself and you thought you may get away with the cheaper single price occupancy if you still have any grievances please get in touch with Expedia to explain it to you instead of writing these type of reviews. Not in my diary to ever go back. Room was freezing cold and not worth the money. However 1 saving feature was that when i could not accept the cold any longer i asked if there was a fan heater available and the owner provided one. Saying " Dont leave it on to long"

Thank you for your feedback. The heating in this guest house is on 24 hours .You needed extra heat so we gave you an electric heater We didn't say to you don't leave it on too long. We said don't leave it all night for your sake

The room was clean and quaint, albeit rather small but it had everything I needed. Cleaning is done daily and they change towels every day, which was excellent. The place is really small, especially the stairs so take caution when heading up with heavy or bulky luggage. The walls were extremely thin so sounds throughout the entire house can be heard rather often especially if there is someone staying right beside you. I stayed in room 7, which was the attic level. The owner was decent and their breakfast option was okay as well. This place is great for short stays (2-3 nights)

Booked a twin room, on arrival informed we had been given a room with a double AND two single beds, which was perfectly ok! The room was clean and quite spacious considering there were three beds in it, with room for a wardrobe, dressing table, two drawer units & bedside tables for all three beds. The downside of this was the fact the en-suite was rather small, so much so, that the wash hand basin was in the bedroom also. The shower cubicle was an adequate size to shower in comfort (I am 6' and 105 kg). The free breakfast was served in a bright room with choice of English / Continental & vegetarian option, requests for extra toast etc. were readily supplied. On the whole a very pleasant two night stay, with just the en-suite lowering the comfort rating.

It is in a good position, but there is very limited parking . It is very basic and needs a lot of revamping, it wasn’t particularly clean especially the outside area. The ensuite was tiny and again needed repairs. The bed and pillows were very uncomfortably. The staff were friendly but I would not recommend staying here

I choose Acorn as it was very near where I needed to be for my work. It is not in the centre of Cambridge, but taxi was only £8 from station. There is a great coffee shop/cafe just opposite. Breakfast was lovely - personal platter of prepared fresh fruit as part of the continental breakfast was so generous I couldn't finish it...

Comfortable hotel within walking distance of the centre of Cambridge. Friendly, helpful staff and straightforward check-in/check-out. Family room and en suite slightly cramped but fine for a single night with most of the day out. Awkward but manageable parking for a large seven-seater MPV.
