“Beautiful chateau - reasonable price”
We felt like royalty after a long day of looking at the beaches of Normandy. We had a beautiful suite with an extra room for our little girl. The setting was right out of a story book.
“A very tranquil setting”
I found the Chateu Bellefontaine to be an oasis, the grounds and setting were extraordinary. The setting is very tranquil and restful, beautiful and uplifting. The room was perfect for our family of three, it was split level with a sitting area and toilet on the ground floor, the main bath on the middle level and the master on the upper level. The two main areas were spacious, very lihgt and bright, had minimal decoration - not a B&B. This particular unit was one of 6 units in a reburbished stable, allowing for more spacious accomodations. All the units in this building had a step out to a common patio area in back of the building - not very private. There is a tennis court but no pool- would have appreciated a nice dip before heading off to dinner. The open lawn garden area was beautiful, the small pond with swans really gave the impression of gracious manner living .There was plenty of space for families, both within the unit as well as the lawn area - there were often kids playing on the lawn and feeding the ducks and swans. The hotel offrered a petite dejeuner; however, at 12 euros per person, we opted to go into town for great pastry, croissants and coffee. The overall impression of the hotel is that of gracious living with wonderful grounds, a very attentitve and accomodating staff.
“Just what we expected. Elegant and quiet.”
Quiet hotel, beautifully situated. Attractively furnished large room with free internet access. A ten minute walk into town for to see the Bayeux Tapestry or have dinner. Good breakfast.
“Peaceful and Serene...A Gorgeous Property”
This hotel is a quick walk out of the town of Bayeux but it is truly worth it. A wonderful chateau amidst ponds and a stream, birds everywhere. The staff were all efficient and gracious. We were loathe to leave. One can walk to town to book tours very easily or see the famous tapestry. We would love to return.
“Nice Setting but suggest you get breakfast somewhere else”
We stayed one night during a car trip through Normandy and the Loire Valley. We selected the hotel from internet reviews based on its apparent charm as well as convenience to Bayeux and the beaches. Upon arrival we were a little disappointed when informed that the room we had booked in the main hotel had suffered a “little leak” and so we were ”upgraded” to one of the two level units in the outer building. This room is a modern renovation within what might have been a carriage house. The bed was very comfortable. However, the layout is somewhat strange. You have to go back down to the main floor to use a washroom. During the evening a power failure (for unexplained reasons) meant we took an early night. On this point, I went to the main hotel to enquire what had happened but was unable to find any staff. We opted for the buffet breakfast for convenience before starting our day. Here as with many other hotels in our trip, we found the breakfast sufficient but overpriced.
“tranquil”
very good hotel for b & b very quiet 10 mins walk to centre of town well signposted on ring road hence easy to find
“A pleasant stay”
Very pleasant and helpful staff. Very scenic grounds. Shower a bit quirky. We stayed two nights and would definitely recommend the hotel.
“Great stay with the kids!”
The propertty is beautiful! We stayed at the Suite/duplex in the converted barn. Very well appointed. The sofa bed was extremely lumpy, but still comforatable (strange, I know). My biggest complaint, very weak wifi signal at the converted barn location, but the staff gives you ample wireless cards. Again, beautiful property and very close drive to the center of town with some beautiful sights - also great location to access the beaches of normandy.
“Charming and quaint hotel with some drawbacks.”
Charming and quaint hotel. Room was very clean. Only complaint was shower is very small, maybe 2ft x 2ft, barely room to turn around. Breakfast is only meal served and is over priced. 15-20 minute walk to city center and restaurants. Short 5 Euro taxi ride from the train station. Actual cost in Euros was more expensive than cost in dollars per the Expedia website, apparently used a very unfavorable exchange rate. Cost for two nights was $50 more expensive than expected.
“Promised a lot, but . . .”
We booked what was called the "Deluxe Privilege Duplex" or something like that. It was certainly not deluxe. The king bed was actually a queen; the queen was an uncomfortable sofabed, and the twin was a dorm-style bed. The room decor looked like it was pieced together from a college dorm -- mismatched furniture and very skimpy bed and bath linens. One bedroom was on the top floor; middle level had the shower and lowest level had the 2nd bedroom and toilet. No air conditioning, no window screens, so you either close the windows and sweat but keep out the bugs, or open the windows and wave the bugs away (there are cows across the street). Too many basic amenities missing. Won't be back.
