Affordable chic hotel, downtown Calgary

Posted 8-Dec-2014
Comfortable, well-designed, clean hotel with great onsite restaurants, AND close to all the downtown Calgary amenities. Very helpful front desk staff. I was even able to check in to my room quite early! Thanks!

Food service

Posted 26-Nov-2014
Quality of the food was great. It took a little longer to get room service than we expected. But staff was friendly and helpful. Had a great experience and we would go back

Nicely appointed hotel

Posted 10-Nov-2014
Pros: All the staff (front desk, valet, restaurant, house-keeping) were awesome to deal with. Friendly, approachable, and very helpful.
Cons: Temperature could be warmed up.
Location: You are right in the heart of downtown Calgary, so lots to do within short walking distance.
We stayed at the Hotel Arts for one night in an Executive Suite. The room was beautiful, very clean! The bed was super comfortable. The couch was very firm if that's what you like. We enjoyed having a balcony. Would recommend a pool side room, as the office building across the street started snow blowing at 7AM on Sunday morning. However, the traffic noise was not noticeable when the balcony door was closed. However, the hotel, including the restaurant, was VERY cold (my husband went and retrieved his coat from the room mid-meal. Other patrons also had their coats on). However, we were situated close to an external door on a cold night and our waitress did try to warm up the restaurant when we mentioned it was cold. We had a hard time getting our room to a comfortable temperature too. All staff were EXCELLENT! Yellow Door restaurant was pricey, but the food was outstanding. Good restaurant to visit in as the acoustics allowed for comfortable conversation.

Beautiful hotel but poor parking policy

Posted 9-Nov-2014
We have stayed at this hotel on a couple of occasions and really enjoyed it for our occasional staycations. This time, however, we chose to park in the public service lot with a displayed price of $5 per day on weekends. When we printed out the ticket it read that hotel guests should give this to the hotel on check-in. So we did and were told it would just be added to our hotel bill. We didn't think to question how much, and assumed it would be the $5. When we checked out the next day, we were very surprised to see a parking charge of $20.95, and when we questioned the girl at the desk explained that it's the hotel rate, which is the same as the underground parking rate. We weren't very happy with how the hotel added $16 to the parking and if we just kept our ticket and paid the gate with a credit card on our way out, we would have saved this amount. Live and learn.

Central location, modern hotel

Posted 27-Oct-2014
Great location in the center of downtown. Not much directly around the hotel, but a few blocks from shopping and restaurants in the Core or on 17th. My room was nicely appointed. I appreciated the USB ports for charging my devices. The bed, however, was probably one of the most uncomfortable hotel beds I've ever slept on. It was like a rock. There's firm, and then there's backbreakers. This was the latter. They definitely need to make bed pads available for guests! I used the gym, which was fine for a hotel gym. It did have the strangest lighting of any hotel gym I've used. It was like dim mood lighting, probably more appropriate for a nightclub than for a gym. Hotel staff was nice, but generally clueless. I asked for info on Banff, and they had zero information. They had to look up ideas on the web. I could do that myself! Restaurant tips were equally nonexistent (i.e. "have you tried the restaurants in the hotel?"). The Yellow Door restaurant was super modern, pricey, and overall very good. Service was lackluster but the food was tasty. I had dinner and brunch there. I felt both were overpriced, but hey, it's a hotel restaurant.

Hotel Arts

Posted 22-Oct-2014
Cons: Hotel Arts needs to have bedside tables & reading lamps on both sides of the bed in the King Studio rooms.
Very friendly and accommodating staff. Excellent breakfast and staff at Yellow Door restaurant.
