Great location

Posted 10-Apr-2015
The hotel is in the perfect central location. The taxi and limousine service was prompt and the staff friendly. The gentleman at the front desk was on the stuffy side. I felt as though I was interrupting him or taking him away from something more important then a paying guest trying to registered. I seem to have completely overwhelmed him when I checked into my room and asked to rent another one as well. Both rooms were awesome, clean and roomy. There was a dance of some sort going on and all night we Heard the thumping. Upon check out this was mentioned and as a sorry for the inconvenience our parking fee was removed from our invoice. Overall, I would return and recommend to friends.

Would not recommend if you want to actually sleep.

I booked this hotel because they were having a decent sale on their rooms but I quickly found out why it was so highly discounted for the weekend. The hotel is located in a very central area of downtown Calgary which was really nice and the hotel lobby was great. The problems that I had was that the room smelled like cigarettes and it was dirty. This hotel apparently allows pets which was evident by the dog barking all night next to my room. Shouting and loud conversations all night just outside the door in the hallways. I was definitely misled by the photos when booking the hotel room. I'm sure that the more expensive rooms are nicer but they need to do something about their basic rooms, at least keep them clean. Maybe if you book during the weeknights it will be more quiet so that you can actually get a good nights rest.

Expected more!

Pros: The rooms have ok decor and the lobby is nice.
Cons: Heat in the rooms is stupid, not enough pillows, no bathroom amenities from housekeeping, staff is not willing to make up for it.
Location: Walkable to everything downtown and saddledome.
The location of this hotel is awesome, but there were so many little things that went wrong and so little effort to make us happy, it was weird. First, our room only had 3 pillows ( for 2 people), then the heat was impossible to turn down and we sweated all night, then there wasn't any shampoo or conditioner in our room, then the shower door was crappy and off its sliders...when I mentioned this to the front desk upon check out (I'd called about pillows, shampoo, etc), they acted surprised, said they'd d look into it for future guests and then charged me $30 for parking. Charming.

Price doesnt include everything!

Pros: Walking distance to the ScotiaBank Saddledome
Cons: Parking, free wifi in ALL areas
Disappointed first to discover that the large outdoor parking lot to the east of the building titled for Hotel Arts is not for your use! Nope. You are asked to pay over $20 to park in the underground lot. Who knows why!? Limited free street parking around and inconvenient to walk from surrounding areas to the hotel Next, free wifi is available only in the lobby area. You go to your room, the bar, the hallway etc... you are going to pay. Hotel staff did NOT inform upon check in that this is the case, and when you are asked to log in to wifi as a guest of the hotel it automatically charges you something like $10/24 hrs or something. They told us that the fee was clearly stated in the log in but it was not, in my opinion. In the end they did cover the internet charge to my liking. Finally, the rooms did not seem to live up to the expectation, considering the price. Yes they were tidy, clean, and had a Keurig and updated bathroom with rain shower head, but there was no mini fridge and only 3 pillows to a king size bed. King size standard room small as well. Overall a satisfactory rating; however, the lack of transparency and the extra costs are somewhat ridiculous considering the reputation this hotel is considered to hold.

Great find in Calgary

Posted 23-Feb-2015
I was visiting for business and was lucky to find a place with personality and nice decor. The gym was oddly on the 2nd floor, but nicely kept with towels. The hotel restaurant, Yellow Door, was quite good. The only thing I found odd was that there wasn't a commentary or any snack or drink options in the room itself.

Beautiful hotel and excellent location

Posted 23-Feb-2015
This hotel is absolutely gorgeous! We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms and enjoyed a beverage at The Yellow Door - which is now a must visit for us in Calgary! Everything about the hotel was wonderful - the only amenities lacking would be a hot tub and in-room mini fridge. Great location as well - a very quick 10min walk to the Saddledome!

Interesting decor!

Posted 21-Feb-2015
Pros: Enjoyed the decor & service .
Cons: Mini fridge in the room would have been nice.
Location: The hotel is close to the Saddledome and downtown core.
Warm, friendly and efficient greeting at reception desk. Room had two queen beds & I should have enquired at check-in as we would have preferred a king bed. The hotel was very accommodating with my request for a late checkout. The decorating in Hotel Arts is vibrant and interesting. We also had dinner at Raw Bar which was very good.
