“What a dump!”
In all fairness, the hotel room was as clean as it could be considering that there had clearly not been any updates since about 1970. The owner of this hotel is obviously the type of business owner who is out to goudge customers and could care less about his/her reputation, or wanting repeat customers. I booked the hotel through Expedia and my room for one night cost more than what I paid at the vastly superior room at the Westin the following night. If the hotel was very cheap (as in at least 100% cheaper) I might not feel so justified in my negative review -- but the price is on par with far superior hotels. But really - the reason I felt compelled to write a review is not the price. Let's just say that I was happy I brought my flip flops because I would not have wanted to stand in the shower without them. The bathroom was ridiculous. Not only was it so small you couldn't stand in the bathroom and open the door. The walls were decrepid and peeling, the fixtures were so old and --- just gross. It felt like the whole place needs to be gutted and completely renovated. Finally -- the TV was from about 1985 and the picture was so bad it was too infuriating to watch. On a positive note, the staff working at Reception were very nice and cannot be blamed for all of the above.
“Old but safe and clean”
Although the furniture and other things looked old, I still like this hotel because it is located in downtown and everything is good for my trip. Besides, services are also pretty well.
“Value stay”
Good value but hotel in need of renovations.
“Poor internet”
Very bad Internet speed. Took 10 minute to read one email! Breakfast not in stay and cost $15 each morning. No one told me were is my room and how to get with luggage!
“Comfort and great location”
My recent stay at the 5 Calgary Downtown Suites was a pleasant surprise. Not only was the cost reasonable, our suite was more apartment than hotel room, with a well stocked kitchen and separate bedroom. Overall very comfortable, well located for restaurants and attractions, friendly staff and good internet connection. I will stay there again!
“Old but comfortable.”
The hotel is old and the rooms have some old cabinets, but the beds are very, very good, the rooms are spacious and the kitchenettes are very handy. The staff is extremely well trained and helpful.
“Modest But Comfortable”
The hotel is old and could use some updating, but the beds are excellent, there is a great deal of room, the showers have good pressure and the staff is extremely helpful.
“Average”
condo apartment changed into hotel. Average , no complaints. freee parking fri and sat, bonus
“Better than the expectation!!”
Hotel Location is wonderful. In heart of downtown..2 min walk from BRT and LRT...Housekeeping and front desk very friendly...
“A Great One Day Stay”
This hotel is a great place to stay in the downtown core. It is conveniently located near shopping, attractions and food services. For those needing their coffee fix, there is two Tim Hortons minutes from the hotel. The hotel has a covered parking lot beside the hotel and has elevators to take you directly to the lobby. The hotel staff are very nice and friendly and the room was very clean. The room itself looked a bit dated but definitely suited our purpose for our one night stay. It has a kitchen area with a refrigerator if you wanted to eat in the room or you could eat in the restaurant in the hotel as well. There is also Wi-Fi capability in the room and I did not have any cut outs. I will definitely recommend this hotel anybody wanting to stay in the downtown core of Calgary as I hope to be a repeat customer in the near future.
