"Canal view was awesome!"
Thoroughly enjoyable 3-night stay. Beautiful pool. Free breakfast buffet could have been open longer. On site restaurant is a Friday's! We would have had dinner on site if they had a restaurant with a local flavor.

"Good Hostal near of Casco Panama"
The environment of the hotel is great. There is a bar and restaurant in the lobby that are good. The only downside is the comfort of the beds and the shower but no big deal. The rooms are a nice size, just a little outdated. The location of the hotel is great. The Manager or the boss ¨i do not know ¨ was exceptional!!!! Only Cons : The floor is the ugliest thing i ve ever seen.

"Perfection"
It is the only place I would stay in Panama City. A beautiful and sensitive restoration of a historic building. Everything is done in the best taste. And it is located in the fascinating old historic section of the city. The model of what a small hotel can be with the best service and delicious food

"Cheaper but central"
Most of the staff were friendly. Almost no one spoke English, but I could communicate with my basic Spanish. The a/c works, but the restaurant was closed for renovations and opened on my last day there! A repetitive breakfast 'sandwich' with coffee was served in my room for over a week. The hotel is secure! and there are lots of shops and places to eat nearby. With many police 24/7 the area is absolutely safe. You can walk the subway station but the roads are extremely busy and a bit hazardous to cross. Taxis abound! The area is very very noisy and the windows are only single glazed so you can hear noise all night. The seafood market is a 5 minute walk and a long (car-free) shopping street is around the corner.

"Comfortable hotel in a decent location"
Expedia chose this hotel for me so I wasn't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. The beds were huge with firm mattresses and fluffy pillows. Linens and towels were clean. The AC was nice and cold--so cold that we had to turn it off for about an hour in the middle of the night. The shower had excellent water pressure and the water was refreshingly room-temperature. (A tip: leave the bathroom door closed overnight. The heat warms up the towels so that when you step out of the shower you can wrap yourself up in cozy warmth.) The TV and cable were easy to control and there were plenty of channels with which to entertain ourselves, though we only watched TV for a couple of hours. Also, there was plenty of storage space in the room, though we did not use it. The hotel is located only a few blocks from the Coastal Beltway, a jogging trail along Avenida Balboa. The neighborhood didn't seem the safest, but Calle 28 houses both a police and a fire station, and there is a pedestrian bridge nearby for safe crossing of the Avenida. Across the street from the hotel is a huge department store called El Machetazo, and there are a few restaurants nearby, including a reasonably-priced 24-hour diner next door to Hotel Acapulco on Calle 30. The pool was closed for "renovations" and our complementary breakfast only included two people, but the $5 for our third guest included eggs, sausage, a pancake, bread, cheese, fresh fruit, juice, and coffee. Breakfast service was great!

"cheap and convenient"
This is not a hotel for lounging around and relaxing. The room are very sparse with tile floors, but a decent air conditioner. If your trip is all about exploring Panama City and only needing a place to sleep, this is the hotel for you. The internet was surprising fast and the staff was very, very helpful and courteous.

"Good place to stay if you just need basic amenity"
Recommended from past experience in living in Panama. Experience this time was a little different. Booked hotel for large convention. Hotel was quite busy and as a result, some things suffered. Wifi was rarely available - even at 2 to 3 am - number of access points needs to be increased. Rooms have no irons or ironing boards, usually a standard item in other hotels. Iron brought to our room leaked like a sieve, stained some of our good clothes. Lighting in foyer/closet area bad, could not see into closet to select clothing for each day's events. Incessant noise from nightclubs across street, noise from neighboring guests penetrated walls a little too easily. Parking was awkward, had to park two blocks down from the hotel and walk through some unsavory areas to get back to the hotel. Breakfast was excellent - good, traditional food served up by pleasant, professional staff. One of the waiters was a very nice older gentleman from the same part of La Chorrera as my wife's family. He was a sincere pleasure to talk to. Interaction with him alone made the stay at the hotel worthwhile. Check-in and check-out was a bit cumbersome as reception was a little unfamiliar with an Expedia prepaid reservation. Overall experience was pleasant. As far as hotels go, the Soloy is a bit above average. The adjoining casino I feel brings in a majority of their revenue, so they may not feel the need to be five-star with the rooms.
