Time in the Blue Mountains

Posted 4-May-2015
Pros: The Art Deco style
Cons: The back entrance was a bit tricky but understand the problem with the renovations.
We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Blue & although the weather was really foggy & wet we still visited the Cultural Centre in Katoomba which was excellent. Friday night Jazz & dinner at Hotel Blue was great.

Quirky hotel with history

Posted 2-Mar-2015
I have stayed here twice and each time all of the staff have been super friendly and efficient. Little touches like calling me by name and welcoming me back made the stay. The room was pleasant and clean, the bed very comfortable although the bathroom had seen better days. The public areas of the hotel are great to explore - it's like staying in a private hotel in the 1920s. Plenty to eat at breakfast but sorry to report the standard of meals at dinner wasn't what I expected. However, there's plenty of good restaurants/cafes nearby which offer excellent alternatives.

Hotel Blue

Posted 25-Feb-2015 on Hotels
My partner and I enjoyed a lovely Valentine's weekend away at Hotel Blue. The food and breakfast service was awesome, as was the evening entertainment which we unfortunately did not have as much time to enjoy as we would have liked. The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly and the hotel had a great family feel. The hotel is located in great proximity to all the local shops in Katoomba. The only negatives we had regarded the hotel condition. The staff have done a great job of embracing the federation style history of the building itself in the main common rooms. However, it may be beneficial to perform some refurbishments throughout the guest rooms themselves. The bathroom was small with inadequate piping. It was difficult to have a nice shower as the water temperature was quite temperamental, oscillating from hot to cold every time somebody else in the building turned the taps on or off. The walls seemed almost paper-thin and we could frequently hear the muffled voices of the couple next door to us, just as i'm sure they could hear us. Overall and on a more positive note, we had a great weekend and would recommend Hotel Blue to any couple who are up for a nice, affordable and relaxing weekend in the Blue mountains, particularly those who are on a budget

Not up to expectations

Posted 17-Feb-2015 on Hotels
Friendly and helpful staff Bed was comfortable Room was very narrow with no where to hang anything Bathroom is small and dated. In urgent need of refurbishing. You had to step sideways to squeeze past the vanity [we are not big people] Room was musky smelling. Towels were still unchanged at 3.30pm in the afternoon and the bed did not get made Walls are paper thin. You can hear your neighbours conversation at normal voice pitch. Breakfast was good 11.00am checkout is nice Overall I would not recommend this hotel to friends

Good location but very dated and run down.

Posted 16-Feb-2015
Pros: The location and the breakfast.
Cons: Lots - particularly the décor.
Location: it's the Blue Mountains - there is plenty to do and see.
The place is like a rabbit warren - up and down. The décor is dated - this is not old world charm and it is in real need of a makeover to lighten the place up. The bathroom was very dated and we had to ask for a toilet brush - there was not one in the bathroom. Other than that it was clean and comfortable but overpriced for what is on offer.
