The perfect hotel!

Posted 29-Jul-2014
This hotel was everything we imagined. A step back in time, with the jazz music playing, cocktails at the bar, and the fire blazing. It was the perfect Christmas outside of Christmas. Breakfast was plentiful and our Christmas in July dinner was delicious. The room was small but clean. The staff were fantastic and there was so much to do in the lobby area. Pictures do not do this hotel justice. If you like that vintage look and feel, this is the hotel for you! We will be back next year for Yulefest.

Old world mountain charm

Posted 8-Jul-2014
Pros: Open fires and common areas were great, dining room and breakfast was excellent
Cons: Maybe a little work in the bathrooms
Location: Walk to Katoomba centre and short drive to scenic world.
The hotel is old world and fits into the mountains surrounding, if you are looking for modern rooms and bathrooms this is not for you, if you are looking for old school character you will love it. The rooms are good and the dining breakfast excellent, enjoyed the stay with the family alot.

Old hotel

Posted 10-Jun-2014
Talking to the owner you can see his vision for how he would like to develop this hotel more. It is an old Building though, so the rooms are small but comfortable. The downstairs lounge area is wonderful to sit in and play chess or pool by the open fire.

Decent

Pleasant overall experience. Staff were nice and helpful. After we feedback that first night was cold, Chris (I think ) from the hotel responded by 'upgrading' our heater. knowledgable guy, his travel experience to Singapore definitely helps us to settle down in the hotel. Food wise - the hotel breakfast was a huge spread for us. Toast, cereal, juices and your choice of hot breakfast. We had "the lot", which included eggs, 2-3 slices of bacon, a sausage, tomato AND 1 pancake, almost everyday. Good for those who likes heavy breakfast. Points to note: Floor boards were creeky but did not pose much disturbance. Toilet was clean except for a bit of stain on one towel on first day. The hotel is located mid way between town and echo point but of a comfortable walking distance.

Needs some effort put into it

Posted 27-May-2014 on Hotels.com
Unfortunately we have found that many of the hotels in Katoomba are overpriced and run down and this was no exception. We picked this hotel because it was in the upper range of the prices and we thought we would splash out. The hotel has not been done up in many MANY years. It has a lovely old feel to it, however it would be great if that lovely old feel was mixed with a little effort on the behalf of the owners. The service was good but it was manned by the cheapest labour that could be found i.e. young people and travellers (who were excellent don't get me wrong). It was advertised as having a TV in the room and as we were going up for a long weekend of not doing much I thought great. The TV is an old 20cm box tv that got 3 channels and was up in the corner where you could barely see it. We had to put a blanket over the window as the curtains were hopeless and there was a lot of excess old "antique want to be" furniture in the room making it feel cramped. There was little light and the finer details such as the spider web up in the corner of the room and the wall paper coming off the wall had not been attended to. When people went for showers or to the bathroom in the middle of the night you thought someone was banging on a wall due to the pipes. We are pretty easy going and still managed to enjoy our stay but won't be recommending or going there again.

Old Country style hotel

Posted 26-May-2014
Pros: Communal areas and nice fire
Cons: rooms updated, particularly bathroom
Location: Within walking distance of town, close to RSL for meals.
The hotel was within walking distance of the main town and on the Hop On Hop Off bus route. The communal facilities were very good with a very nice dining area for the price included breakfast and it had a nice sitting area for socializing with a fire and bar facilities. however luggage had to be carried upstairs which is difficult for older guests and the rooms certainly needed updating. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Hotel not far from centre of town

Posted 17-May-2014
It would have been better if there had been a transfer in and out of town and a laundry is always needed. For older guests it is difficult to get luggage up the steps really needs a lift. Would recommend it to younger more agile guests only.
