“Nice”
A nice older hotel renovated with character convenient to downtown.
“Birmingham Civil Rights District”
The Redmond Hotel is very well placed for visitors to the Civil Rights Institute and other Birmingham landmarks. I was told its the oldest hotel in Birmingham and has a colorful history. Its been refurbished since reviews were posted saying it was dirty and in need of attention. Its in very good condition now, though the Central Business District where its located is really quiet on weekends and the cafe in the hotel is closed after lunch on Saturday and Sunday. There is a free shuttle to take guests to any downtown location - which is great. Walking is also a reasonable option, though I wouldn't have gone far on foot after dark because I don't know my way around. As a woman traveling alone I felt safe and well looked after. I didn't hear about the hotel ghost (Hank Williams drank himself into a stupor there apparently) until after I checked out. The free airport shuttle is a bonus.
“Nice, friendly historic hotel”
Since I didn't eat at this hotel, I can't respond to the other reviewer's comments. But the staff was friendly, the hotel had a lot of charm and character, and it wasn't your usual sterile chain. And it's right downtown, which is great if you have an early meeting and don't want to fight the Birmingham traffic. Finally, it's affordable, which isn't the case with the other nice downtown hotels. I'll definitely stay again.
“Redmont Hotel in Birmingham, AL”
Both rooms needed dusting badly. Especially tops of picture frames and television consoles. Wall paper was peeling in the bathrooms. Service by the valets, especially Antoine and Don was superb. All the desk personnel were professional and friendly. In the dining hall I received very personalized service from the hostess and the cooks/managers, and the food was rated at B+. When given the chance I shall return.
“Very friendly staff, but freezing cold room!”
The staff here is great. They have a shuttle that will take you and drop you anywhere you like... for FREE. Great service. However, the hotel lacks a in-house restaurant and the rooms are freezing. This is mostly due to the fact that the hotel is very old and has original window frames still intact. Overall, a cold stay that was easily made up for by the unmatched, free shuttle service.
“Great value”
The rooms were fairly new and modern for the price. A solid 3 stars. Being downtown there are no food options late at night, so I was completely shocked when the concierge gave me his personal car to go pick up some food! I have never seen anything like it. Unbelievable.
“Redmont-Birmingham, AL”
This is a nice, centrally located hotel in the downtown Birmingham area. The hotel, established in 1925, has definitely been maintained to keep up with the times; I felt as comfortable staying in this hotel as I would a modern chain with all the bells and whistles.
“Nice rooms!”
The rooms were nicely decorated, linens were exceptionally nice. The restaurant was not crowded, perhaps a slow time, but the service was good.
“Red Is Hot”
Overall the hotel adequately met most of my needs as far as accomodation were concerned. Some area that should be addressed I feel, is the physical layout of the room I was given ( #402). Due to the fact that the position of the television and the desk blocked another persons ability to watch TV if someone else was sitting at the desk. Also, the placement of the microwave and coffeemaker on the desk top without available outlets prevented me from not having adequate workspace or accessibility to these item as the TV required one of the outlets. in other words my room did not match the features shown in the Redmont brochure on the website, in it pictured a chair and ottoman and we had to sit on the bed if one sat in the desk chair.
“Convenient to Everything Downtown Birmingham”
A friend and I went to see Bama Rising at the BJCC. I found that the Redmont was the closest hotel for the cheapest price. I'm really glad that we chose it. We didn't have to move our car at all. We found a ton of things to do during the day before the concert just wandering around downtown. We went to this old Peanut Depot that's been around since 1907 and still use the same roasters purchased when they opened. We also went to the Birmingham Museum of Art, which is free admission by the way. We were TOTALLY blown away with all the exhibits there! If you plan on going, give yourself a good 2 hours to run through all the exhibits. There are great little cafes and restaurants all over downtown. Overall Birmingham experience was great! The hotel was a perfect location. The inside wasn't the Ritz, but everyone was courteous and the room was satisfactory for coming and going.
