“Beautifully quiet, friendly, clean and comfortable”
The staff were very friendly and helpful: we arrived at 11.30a.m. before our room was ready and we could put our luggage in a locked room near reception. The hotel was situated right opposite the police station, one reason possibly as to why it was so beautifully quiet. There was no noise, either, from any of the rooms. Our room was very clean and very comfortable. BBC World News was availableamongst 30 or so TV channels. On weekdays the hotel provided very reasonable and delicious set lunches, as well as the more expensive a la carte- useful for us on our last day. Just turn right out of the hotel and in a few minutes you get to Checkpoint Charlie and plenty of cafes, banks and shops.
“When visiting Berlin next year we will return to this comfortable, clean and friendly hotel.”
This Hotel is conveniently close to Kochstrasse U-Bahn station. Close to Checkpoint Charlie (usually knee deep in tourists), and walking distance of Galeries Lafayette. A day ticket for all zones and modes of transport (surface and underground) cost a mere 6Euro and 80 cents and is valid from the time of validation until 03:00 a.m. the following day. Trains are frequent and clean although when we were in Berlin one of the U-Bahn lines was under major work and diversions were in place. All in all Berlin is a good place for a short break and the Angleterre is a good place to stay
“Berlin Marathon 2008 winner!”
Stayed here for the Berlin Marathon 2008; ideally situated as it was a short jog to and from the start/finish line at the Brandenburg gate. Admittedly we splashed out on a suite but it was well worth it, plenty of space to spread out, immaculately clean room, and quiet even though overlooking the street. The lounge part of the suite even had a free to use running machine, as if 26 miles wasn't enough! No tea making facility in room, though this is common outside of UK. Staff were very friendly, helpful and spoke excellent english. We dined in the restaurant on 2 of the 3 nights. Friday night was a buffet, excellent value and good food. Sunday night was off the a la carte which again was excellent but more expensive. Wine fairly expensive but as expected. Ground floor (lobby/bar/restaurant) is a bit of a warren and accessed easier from doors leading to/from the main street. As previous reviews have said, well situated for sightseeing and not many restaurants close by (Italian within 5/10 mins walk in adjacent street). Good street cafe across the road for snacks and an alternative for breakfast. Pharmacy and newsagent adjacent to hotel. Strongly recommended for a weekend trip, fascinating city.
“très proche de checkpoint Charlie et des autres lieux touristiques”
Hôtel de qualité, propre, bien situé!
“A wonderful hotel”
We stayed at the Angleterre Hotel for a week over the Christmas break. The staff spoke perfect English and were both friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel, near Checkpoint Charlie and a few yards from an underground station ( Kochstrasse ) meant that all the sights were in walking distance when we fancied a stroll or easy to travel to when we didn't.The Restaurant served wonderful food and we noticed that between 18.00 and 20.00 they offered food at half price. The Commonwealth Bar was a welcome retreat at the end of the day, offering both local and British beers in quiet and comfortable surroundings.
“Good Deal”
This place was a great deal for what I paid. Good location (right in front of the subway), nice rooms, helpful staff etc. My only complaint is the far too common hotel practice of pushing two twin beds together and calling them a king-sized bed (for some reason this seems more common in Europe than the US).
“Excellent”
Situated a short walk from Checkpont Charlie, this hotel was lovely. The rooms were tastefully decorated in a simple, classic design. It was exceptionally clean, the cleaner came in every day with clean towels and sheets (and made a great job of cleaning the bathroom I've got to say!) The food was absolutely lovely, we were room only and had to pay extra, but it was worth it. There was a huge choice from the breakfast buffet and it all tasted gorgeous. Dinner was excellent too, and if you eat between 5 and 8 pm it is half price. A hotel well worth it's 4 stars.
“Location”
Excellent Location however breakfast very expensive - plenty of alternative places to eat close by. Fitness suite is payable locally
“enjoyable Berlin”
I spent 6 pleasant days in this fine hotel which is very nicely located in the center of Berlin. Air-conditioned comfort behind an old facade. My only complaint is that the breakfast room is far too small for the large number of guests. But I would definitely try to stay here again.
“Good hotel”
Resonably priced. Would certainly want to stay there on our next visit. Very well located for major sites and shopping ponts of interest to tourists. Bed mattresses much to soft.
