“Great staff”
Lovely hotel with great food and exceptionally helpful staff, will definitely be back when we are in the area.
“Hidden Gem”
I chose the hotel as it was close to a meeting the next day. I prefer hotels like this to large chains, and I wasn't disappointed. The evening meal was excellent as was the service. Room was big and bed was comfortable, which is a real plus point for me as I have a bad back.
“Grovefield House”
Grovefield is marketed as a top end hotel; rooms gardens and indeed quality of the food matches that aim. The problem is the staff. They are on the whole pleasant and willing enough if a touch casual and familar but their sense of service and training is sadly lacking. For example the receptionist acts as if she is reading from a script with no entuisiasm or sense that she means what she is saying and if you ask anything off-script there is a blank look. For example the resaurant staff have no knowledge of the wine list and cannot explain the menu. Finally, the bar area is like a pub; jangle music in the background and the television on in the corner - and you keep having to go to find a member of staff. Grovefield needs to decide what market it is aiming at - for the current price it doesnt meet the standard it is purporting to offer.
