“Great Place”

Based on the reviews, we decided to stay here the only night we were in Bergen (8/13). It was a great choice. We had two rooms on the 4th floor. Everything looked new, and very tastefully decorated. Even the wall hung liquid soap dispensers were elegant and very functional. The room size was not an issue, bigger than many of the hotels we have stayed in, in New York City for example. The bathroom was a bit on the small side-to save room space the access was through a sliding door that was artistically blended into the room decoration. The reception staff was very friendly and helpful. We took advantage of the afternoon buffet meal, and came away satisfied. We had an 8 am departure on the express boat to Flam, so we had breakfast before it was completely set up, but it was good. The space available for the food setup is not large, but there was enough variety. There were two free computers for internet/other uses, and we took advantage of them. Because of our early departure, we had to check out early, and left our bags stored for pickup in the afternoon. The room is locked, so we had no problems. Although we took the taxi in, the SAS airport bus stops in front of the hotel, since it faces the adjacent SAS hotel. There is also a small market next to the hotel, and there is a 7-11 24 hour store no more than 5 minutes from the hotel. This was our first experience with a Clarion Hotel- we will certainly consider them in the future.

“Excellent hotel in historic Bergen”

The Clarion Collection Hotel Havnekontoret is situated next to Bergen's historic waterfront, which makes it ideally positioned for exploring the city. The building is a former harbour office, and it has been tastefully converted retaining some period features and artefacts. The hotel is just a few hundred metres from the international ferry terminal, and is served by Bergen's airport bus service, so access is easy. This is quite a luxurious "bed and breakfast" hotel. It doesn't have a restaurant, but it offers an excellent buffet breakfast as well as snacks during the day, and a simple buffet meal in the evening for any guest who wants it. All this is at no additional cost to the room, making the hotel very good overall value for money. The lack of restaurant is not a problem, as there are plenty of excellent restaurants within walking distance if you fancy something more extravagant. The staff were helpful and pleasant and, like most Norwegians, all spoke good English. My only criticisms were that the rooms were quite small with limited storage space (although, otherwise, well appointed, clean and comfortable), and that the "free" wireless internet service was not free without a subscription to a local network - however the service worked well once I had taken out a temporary subscription with the local ISP. I would certainly return to this hotel again, and to Bergen - it's a beautiful and civilised city despite its legendary rainfall!

“excellent hotel for norway”

breakfast was god , but the great bonus was the evening buffet which could be a free diner . the waffles at lunch were a nice free snack.. the staff was quite helpful and pleasant .. will go back for sure if i am in bergen ..

Good location, convenient to walk around town. Hotel was very nice, appeared recently updated, and the staff was very nice and helpful. Included breakfasts and snacks were very good.

the Clarion is located conveniently near the fish market and Brygge. Breakfast is included as well as afternoon waffles, and light evening meal.

We loved it here! The staff was wonderful and the food great! Was in a perfect location next to the harbour! It was a great place!

“Fabulous Stay”

We had a lovely relaxing 4 day stay. It was great to go back to a friendly relaxed base after our excursions in the rain and snow. The rooms were very comfortable, really enjoyed the heated bathroom floor and although the complimentary coffee was not in the rooms it was very easy to make a cafetier of coffee downstairs and take it up to the room although there were many places downstairs to put your feet up and enjoy a bottomless pot! Also recommend a trip up to the top of the tower - get the key first - could take that coffee pot up there too! Did I mention the complimentary afternoon and evening snacks, pancakes for tea and great cold buffet later (always something for vegetarians which is lucky as we found it challenging to find vegi food with a local flavour whilst out and about and much better value for money than a restuarant meal every day!) Minibar prices also compare well. We will definately look out for a Clarion Collection hotel in our next destination. enjoy your stay. Although we weren't worried by this and the situation was rectified instantly on notifying the reception staff on duty, a previous guest had returned and beerless bottle to the fridge and the snacks we ate were not topped up when the room was serviced.

“fantastic Bergen hotel”

My recent trip to this hotel was fantastic--the staff could not do enough for us. It was in a very convenient place to walk to all attractions. Convenient too for the bus from the airport which stopped and began outside. Although it was classed as bed and breakfast--the light supper was perfectly ample for an evening meal--as Norway is quite expensive to eat out--as we found out on the night we ventured out. they also have pancakes that you can cook on the griddle in the afternoon if you fancy popping in for a cuppa. The only drawback we found is that if you are not a couple--the bathroom door is see thru glass--but this only a very small thing in a lovely hotel. If you have time--go on the Norway in a Nutshell trip, available at the very informative tourist office---It was a fantastic trip with plenty of photo opportunities.
