This Travelodge in Trenton did the trick. We stayed here while travelling for the Solar Eclipse of 2024, having to make a decision as to whether to head east towards Montreal and Sherbrooke, or stick to our original plan and head west towards the shores of Lake Erie. I woke up on the morning of the April 7th, the day before the eclipse, and wandered down to the shores of the Bay of Quinte... the property has a nice grassy area where you can walk, reflect, and appreciate the beautiful Ontario nature on the water. I watched the sunrise over the water, and pondered the uncertain adventure ahead of me. Thankfully, the correct decision came to me, and I shared a nice conversation with the concierge about the beautiful scenery and history of the area. Long and short, we saw the solar eclipse in totality on the shores of Lake Erie; but the careful reflection that came to me while staying in this Travelodge was a pivotal part of our journey! Breakfast was decent and simple for a Travelodge, and the night was actually very quiet, especially given the hotel was full of travelers for the eclipse, like myself.

I was impressed on the cleanliness of the hotel and its beautiful view over the lake. We came for the eclipse and it was so nice to be planted by the lake for that. Property has had some new carpets and overall very clean. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend for it’s affordability. Breakfast was ok but good for your average continental. No elevator but I am used to Europe and you make do without one.

Old and outdated hotel. Hallway was very musty smelling. Exit door to back parking door had broken latch so unable to lock. Bed was quite firm but not uncomfortable. TV channel selection was terrible. Not suitable if you enjoy watching TV. Hot tub was clean but ran out of hot water while filling.

True, it wasn't perfect cleanliness - there were quite a few cosmetic issues. Nothing major though that would have cancelled a stay. But it was also the cheapest around. The staff was excellent, check in/out was quick and easy, and the continental breakfast was actually quite a bit better than expected - 3 hot-food options, assortment of breads/cereals/toppings, coffee/juice. Filled me up for the morning for sure!

Avoid if you can - not worth it
The hotel was disappointing from check-in to check-out. We booked a quick 1-day trip on our way and the check-in was later in the night and had to wait for a while for someone to be there. The room we requested was non-smoking but when we went to the room, it reeked of smoke and was really hard to breath. We tried calling the front desk to inform them but were unable as the phone was totally disconnected. We went to the front desk and were redirected to a room in the basement where it did not smell that bad but still smelled musty. The room's lock did not work and we had to put a suitcase in front for additional safety. The beds were not comfortable and it was a restless night for all. We did not use the showers as the faucet did not budge and there were hair pasted on wall and in the tub! In the morning, when we were leaving for breakfast, our neighbouring room kids, who were running around in corridor, informed us that they have someone who is very contagious and we should keep our doors closed. Luckily, we carried masks with us so we put them on and used hand sanitizer. During breakfast, the front desk guy was really helpful in getting us some fresh items. It was a decent breakfast and we did find items that we could have. We left as soon as we could and hopefully never have to return. Internet was working just fine but had it not been for good service, we would have left the night we checked-in, regardless of any losses.

We give a little paper note to each guest when they check in for the wifi password and instruction to operate the lock but some guests do not follow and then complain for door not locking.
