“Very Nice Hotel”
This was our first trip to Belize and we were very satisfied. Each Banyon Bay room has a little bit different character. Ours was very nice. The AC worked great and the cable TV was US based. The pool is medium sized, but they all seem to be that way. There are several grocery stores in walking distance of the hotel, but you will need a golf cart to get to town (10 minutes by cart or 30 walking). The restaurant was very good and we ate there a lot. Dinner runs $75 US per couple. You can eat in town for about $50 US down to $5 US if you try hard. Golf cart rental is $45 for 2 hours. All of the hotels around Banyon Bay seemed nice. Banyon Bay Staff was great. There is a dive shop on premise that took us on great dives right off the hotel. There is not really swimming off the hotel (or island really) as there is a lot of sea grass surrounding the island. There are lots of snorkeling trips and swim with the dolphin trips to go on. We are divers and the diving was fantastic. The only downside of Belize is the tax on imported liquor and wine. A $6 bottle of yellowtail wine is $35 in Belize. You can get the 8oz beers for $1.50. If you like hard liquor, bring your own or a lot of cash. Ambergris Caye is what you would suspect. Very small (Town is 5 blocks long and 3 blocks wide), mostly poor population, and not a lot going on, but most speak English and seem pretty happy. We felt safe and did not feel the constant hand out mentality you see in Mexico.
“Trying to pick a date out to return!”
We enjoyed our visit at Banyan Bay Villas at San Padro. So laid back. Great food at Rico's. Went to Ho Shan Reserves and Shark Ray Alley. The best snorkel trip for us and we have been all over snorkeling. Will, from onsite dive shop, was great. Everyone we had contact with on this island was so friendly. We felt very safe. When we went anywhere we would have front desk call Sammy. Some rent golf carts to get around but we chose not to this trip. Walked a lot too. Sammy was very informative about island and took us on a driving tour. We had a good meal and fed the Tarpon downtown at Sunset grill. Calientas downtown was also a good place to eat. We had a two bedroom, 2 bath ocean front villa and it had lots of room. Anna kept our room clean. There was myself, husband and 24 year old daughter who made this trip. It was great!
“Best Experience - Great Hotel!”
I visited Caye Ambergris with a friend of mine, and we had the best time! The hotel was perfect, and I wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel grounds were beautiful, and and being located right on the water was amazing. We had a poolside room - spotless, comfortable, and very quiet. The staff was incredibly friendly, organized, and very helpful. We organized a snorkeling trip through the hotel, which was terrific and very reasonably priced. We also reserved a golf cart through the hotel to drive around the Caye for a day - very easy and convenient. Also, the restaurant, Rico's, was great. We had several breakfasts there, plus one dinner. The food was delicious and, of course, you can't beat the view of the ocean right there. The beach in front of the hotel was also very nice and peaceful. Since we had a full kitchen, we also ate in one evening, and the hotel is located near three or four grocery stores, so that was really convenient. If you book a day trip, such as snorkeling, visiting Mayan ruins, etc., you only need to go to the end of the hotel dock for the boat to pick you up, and you're off! This is also where you get dropped off as well. So convenient and easy, once again! I would love to visit Caye Ambergris again one day, and if I do, I will definitely stay at the Villas at Banyan Bay again. Highly, highly recommend!!
“PLACE FOR A FAMILY TO STAY, EXCELLENT ROOMS”
WAS SATISFIED OVERALL WITH THE ROOM AND ITS SERVICES. WE WERE REALLY TAKEN GOOD CARE. EVERYONE SEEMED FRIENDLY AND ASSISTED US WITH EXTRA BED FOR MY KID. NICE TO STAY AND IN COMFORT. HOPE THE AC WOULD HAVE WORK BETTER. WAS HOT AT NIGHT, AC LOOKED AS NOT WORKING BUT OVERALL WE ENJOYED.
“Lovely place to stay.”
Hotel staff were excellent and very helpful. Esmerelda, our cleaning lady was the sweetest ever and did a superb job. Pool was nice and there were always chairs available. Rico's restaurant was good and they cooked the snapper that my husband had caught earlier in the day for us. The hotel was a little dated but it met our needs. The kitchen could have been a little better stocked (needed a big plastic bowl for chips).
“Definitely Must Go”
We had the oceanfront condo. It was great! The master bed was not as comfortable as i expected, but everything else was wonderful! Full kithen, 2 bath, pull out beds, private porch to have your coffee, tea or cigars :) Great location. walking distance from the grocery store and liquor store (same place). The pool was great, except i was expecting a hot tub.
