“Private Island Experience”
Aside from not realizing how isolated the resort was, we had a great time. There are free Kyaks, free bikes, a beach with clear warm Carribean water, a restaurant, beautiful pool, dive shop, internet (we got it in the room) and lots of surrounding beaches and wildlife and nice warm weather. On a walk up the coast I had a wonderful time seeing private homes/mansions each with their own docks and two foot-long iguanas near a green abandoned (?) restaurant. The only thing about the surrounding area was the ocean debri that washed up. If the people who live there aren't there to clean it, it adds up I guess. The staff was nice and diverse and we didn't have any bugs. We saw two tiny one-inch lizards by the windows though. You really feel like you are on a private island. It's quite and once the transformer shut off for a minute and it was very cool. On site store is limited and has limited hours but restaurant and poolside bar open all day/eve. Great homemade tortillas and lots of veggie things and good menu.
“Beautiful location, great staff, painful policies”
Quiet, secluded, relaxed - 7 miles north of San Pedro. Perfect place if you want some R and R. If you're heading there be sure to stop in San Pedro for groceries etc. before heading out - there is little once you're there (although the bar staff makes excellent drinks). Everything at the hotel is shut on a Saturday (with the exception of the bar): the shop is closed, no kayak or bikes are available for use, no excursions, the staff were all in a meeting for over an hour in the morning. It's their policy. The policy does not change (opening the shop for an hour on the saturday would have solved our gripes and those of other guests). The hotel caters to people staying on a week - arriving on a saturday - hence the policies.
“It was a good experience”
Costa Maya Reef Resort great place to stay if privacy is on your agenda.
“Great Getaway”
For a restful retreat this is a excellent location. i would return.
“Get what you pay for.....”
The staff was very gracious and helpful. The food was below average. Access to San Pedros was via a taxi costing $12 each way.
