Our oceanfront cabana was great and had a beautiful view. Only issue we noticed was the bathroom ceiling tile is falling. A portion of the resort is under remodel, overal resort needed love. Can feel some kind of really hard surface under the sand (need more sand brought in), the grounds could be so beautiful but doesnt appear a lot of effort is put into it or maybe just really understaffed. They let us check in early which was very nice. The staff was friendly, there is a store there which is nice since you're a little ways from town but wouldnt say they are very friendly. Restaurant was subpar. Only ones there and still messed up my husbands order but in all fairneas only ate there once. Pool was nice, we used the one at Oceans 23 (next door) which is better kept then the 2 at Capt. Morgans. For the price it was an ok stay, it is a little ways from town, some road construction, lots of speed bumps

We stayed in a 2 bedroom. Everything was very clean. Staff was helpful and friendly at checkin and throughout our stay. There is a small convenience store on site with snacks. This was a nice location, as it is in between town and secret beach.

All the staff from the reception area to the restaurant were very friendly. The main pool had construction going on but was beautiful to have breakfast at the pool. The other pool, which belongs to the adjacent resort on property was absolutely breathtaking. You could walk into the pool just as if you were from the shoreline to the ocean, which I loved. No steps to get in and out of the pool. My beach front cabana room was very comfortable and had all the necessities required, including a nice front patio

I like that it had beautiful rooms with options to have a kitchen to make your own meals when needed. The construction wasn't great, but excited for the renovations to come. Wish the casino had been back open too.

The hotel is beautiful and the staff is really nice and friendly, the only 2 things I would recommend are: 1. The wifi often comes and goes when you’re in your room. 2. There’s no way you can communicate with front desk unless you walk all the way towards it, and some of the villas are not that close.

Incredibly friendly staff and an excellent location, because it is halfway between San Pedro town and secret beach. Restaurants on site and nearby, and tours will pick you up at the resort, with snorkeling leaving from the resort. The view is spectacular. The only complaint is that the room did not have a microwave, which we knew it wouldn’t but is still a lack. Casino closed for Covid-19 but all else operating as normal. Grocery store on site

The staff was friendly, helpful and caring. The staff is what really saved our stay. We paid for 2 ocean front rooms so we could have easy access to the beach, but because of the seagrass "infestation" the beach was inaccessible and the smell was almost unbearable. We had to rent, and pay for, a golf cart daily so we could escape to a different area. The rooms are acceptable and clean, not resort status. There are 2 pools that are not for the hotel guests to access, they should not be pictured or advertised as part of the hotel then. Overall we had a relaxing time but the hotel and beach were a disappointment.

Looks recently remodeled. Very nice. Our porch looked right off to the ocean. Property well maintained. Staff was attentive and very pleasant. Close to the center of the city for local foods. Will stay here in the future.

Everyone that works at Captain Morgan's is so kind. They all truly care about the guests staying there and will go out of their way to prove it! Ingrid, the bartender, takes the time to learn everyone's name, greets them with a smile, and is so kind! The staff helped me organize a cake and balloons for my husband's birthday. The casino was closed due to COVID, which we didn't know about prior to booking, so that was a bummer. But it was still a wonderful experience!

We stayed in cabins 22, right on the beach. It had a very comfortable bed and the views were unimpeded! We fell asleep to the sounds of the waves and the oceans breeze every night. The cabina is perfect for two people with a small fridge and a coffee maker. We liked to sit on the small deck and read or hang out. There are three pools on the property though at one point, the bartender told us two of them were reserved for owners. We used them anyway since they were advertised. Important to note that the ones with the swim-up bar are NOT staffed. So expect to walk to the other pool to get your drinks. Staff was friendly though inconsistent on information. On Tuesday nights, the restaurant has a nice buffet of local foods with vendors there to sell trinkets and live reggae music. No one told us about it but we did hear about it from another guest. Sadly, it was poorly attended. Better communication of what is available to guests would be appreciated. Location of the resort is close enough to town without being too far away. Any further than 2-3 miles N of the bridge (or N of here) is far with road conditions. Recommended to rent your golf cart from the resort! It is a few dollars more than getting one in town but there is only one gas station on the S side of town and getting back and forth to it on return day is a PAIN and a loss of valuable vacation time! Special thanks to Keiner at the front desk and to Matt in the restaurant. Overall, we had a nice stay.

Really enjoyed CMR
Enjoyable, relatively quiet, beautiful setting, close to the water. Everything was great! Not a 5 star for US standards but certainly for this beautiful island. 2 concerns, nothing terrible, just know you are on a small “island”. The water pressure was low but always had hot water. The other concern was the proximity to your neighbors. We stayed in the Premium Cabanas. The views and proximity to the water made it up for it. The retreat is 3 miles from San Pedro. Very happy for that as San Pedro is very noisy. You will need a golf cart regardless. There’s lots to explore while taking a day off from diving. Will definitely stay here again.

Beautiful resort
Our stay at captain morgan’s was great and I would highly recommend! The rooms were clean, everyone was very friendly and gave great recommendations for things to do and places to eat in San Pedro, especially our concierge Boni. The amenities were awesome. We had the ability to take the kayaks out a couple times to see dolphins and eagle rays, which is all complimentary. I would stay here again.

Quiet, and secluded...great pools. Close proximity to tons of restaurants and bars. Nor far from secret beach. A little further removed from town, but we chose it for that reason. The rooms were a little darker and dated, but clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend!

My husband and I fell in love with Ambergris and Captain Morgan’s 17 years ago. The property has grown a lot since then. The staff is still friendly, the beach and pools are beautiful. My only mini complaint is not being able to get any clean towels for 3 days. I don’t mind being environmentally conscious and have no problem hanging bath towels but being able to get fresh hand towels, washcloths and dish towels more frequently if you need them would be nice.

With regards to the towels, there is a card in the bathroom of every unit with instructions that state if you would like fresh towels, to leave them on the floor and they will be replaced. Unfortunately, hanging towels is an indication to our housekeeping staff that you don't need fresh towels. We certainly hope this wasn't a spoiler for you and that you'll stay with us again next time you are in Belize.

A clean room your wife will enjoy and excursions!
The crew at Captain Morgan's Retreat was awesome. Bonafacio greeted us with a smile (along with Joelle, Phil, and Joel during our stay) at the Front Desk. Our room was taken care of and had a nice touch of flower petals when we checked in...wife really like that...and immediately we realized they cared about clean!!! Clean room, clean bathroom, clean sheets, clean, clean, clean!!! Roger helped us with all of our excursions for snorkeling and a trip to the Mayan ruins! This is a great place and really nice to have everything (golf cart, restaurant, store, and beach) onsite. We will be coming back.

Seaweed/ Grass
Seaweed/grass is a massive problem which is feet deep and has discoloured the sea to a brown colour 100's of yards out. A few resorts have closed down due to this problem. No swimming possible. Staff at Captain Morgan are brilliant, apartment was good as is the resort as a whole.The weed is constantly being removed but it is an uphill struggle.

Beautiful resort located about 10-15 minutes from town. Unfortunately it's in need of maintenance. It's starting to look at bit "used" but I would still go back. Great staff and great service! They now charge for the user of paddle boards but no biggie, we had great time! They should try to use a water net to fight the Sargassum invasion. Overall great experience!

Check in took a couple hours. The staff was overwhelmed and there were several guests ahead of us in line that had room complaints that took a long time to resolve. The exterior condition of the resort buildings looked like it was in need or repair - wood siding falling off, missing soffets, etc. The main pool was very pretty, but the poot with the swim up bar always looked cloudy and lots of stuff floating in it. The room was nice, the AC unit in the bedroom worked great. The only complaint was the mouse problem...our bread and snacks were broken into and mostly eaten by rodents. We were also there the week after heavy winds and rough seas so the water was churned up and murky with mounds and mounds of sea weed. Not much that can be done about that, but no body was swimming at the resort beach and snorkeling wasn't possible.

Thank you for taking valuable time to express your concerns with us. We apologize for the check-in process taking some time to complete, sometimes when everybody shows up at the same time, things can seem a bit overwhelming. Rooms are guaranteed for check-in by 4:00 pm, but sometimes, depending on occupancy and staffing levels, this can run a little late. This is not unusual in the industry. On some of the building’s exteriors we have deliberately created a “tropical retreat” look, utilizing thatched roofs on our cabanas, and a weathered-looking exterior. Unfortunately, rodents are present on Ambergris Caye. We do our best to mitigate the issue, but sometimes they can be persistent. We are truly sorry this was an issue during your stay. While we’re fortunate enough at the resort to be situated by the world’s second largest barrier reef, which protects our shoreline from rough waters and waves, sea grass tends to grow as a result. The sea grass beds protect vulnerable aquatic eco-systems, so the grass is protected by law - it is illegal to dredge any closer than 75 feet into the shoreline. We are grateful you took the time to review Captain Morgan’s. Do come back and visit us so you can see all the improvements we have made!

The resort was clean, comfortable and service from the staff was great! AC was fully functional and we had a ceiling fan available. My friend and I stayed at the small, beach front house. If you are looking for a place to relax, away from town and local businesses, then this is the place for you. The beach front is not a clear blue like other areas. Aside from the sea grass, which I was expecting, the water looked murky and not suitable to go in. Food was good and it’s reasonably priced. Drinks were okay, high premium liquor is available but it can get expensive, $14.00 USD per drink. Staying at this resort you must get a golf cart to get into town! It’s the only way to move around and the most economical. I paid $25 USD for a taxi, one way trip to town. I am a 30 year old and I went with my friend. If you want to explore town, party, and go on excursions I wouldn’t recommend this resort. The town is about 20-30 minutes away, a lot of the bars and eateries are overlooking the ocean and they are beautiful!There’s also a myriad of hotels to choose from in town. I booked Captain Morgan's because I enjoy pool bars, though this resort had one, it was very quiet. If you stay in town, you probably won’t need a golf cart for too many days. I booked an excursion, they picked us up but we were far away from the service point. All in all, I enjoyed Captain Morgan’s! But it’s definitely a place to go retreat. If this is what you want, then I would highly recommend it!!

Thanks for your review. Sargasso is a Caribbean-wide issue and as it is naturally occurring, every resort must contend with it and it is not easy to mitigate due to government regulations regarding dredging. Mice are also commonplace in Belize.
