Location, location, location. Right across from Red Theater for the Kung Fu show. Walking distance to Temple of Heaven and subway station. Great value. Room was clean but needs fresh paint. Quiet location facing a courtyard. Nice window seat to read and enjoy a cup of tea. Friendly staff. Minimal English but proficient in using the translate apps because I have insufficient Chinese.

Not professional at all, everything I have to do its myself. To check in, I had to ask for wi-fi password. I have to ask how to get to my room again about where is the escalator and how to use it. also The second and third nights I have to came down from my 5th floor to asked for re-code to my key card to entry to my room To check out, no bills issued about my expense. Over all I'm not satisfied at all, very disappointed

This Hotel is located by the Olympic sports blvd which is to remember. However, the building itself is hidden a little and not many are familiar with this hotel when asking for directions. The staff were nice but required google translate. Paid a 100 RMB deposit or something close to that for check in. The Elevator only could be accessed with a card, unless you took the stairs. The room we had was a honeymoon sweet I think bc it had sex supplies that looked like cigarette boxes and a bathroom which had no door or privacy to block the bedroom. We had to create a barricade which was tricky. The bedroom as a good size and the bed and AC were great. In the middle of the night we heard a flushing noise as if someone were flushing the toilet or running water. Came to a realization that It may have come from the floor above us which may have been the laundry room. We asked for a different room and they had no problem doing so the following day. The room was the same as our initial, no privacy. A pro was they called a taxi for us but the driver they sent ignored our request to run the meter and set a 200 RMB rate to the airport. All In all, it was cheap and near by the Pearl market (naa someting), the town square of shanghai and the bund. Good for a short period of time booking and would recommend trying it. There is a restaurant in-house which was kinda expensive.

They claimed our reservation was canceled, but offered to rent us a room for twice the price (over $100/night), which was way overpriced. We immediately used the internet to book elsewhere and took a taxi. This is an OLD hotel in a poor relatively undeveloped part of the city. The photos are misleading and appear to be taken when the hotel was new. Rusted out, it is now in poor condition, and mosquitos were biting when we were in the lobby. Even getting a taxi was difficult as the hotel is on a less well traveled street. The hotel is Chinese standard (not up to US standards) with nonsensical step/stair placement, squatter lobby toilets, a lack of maintenance, and less than reasonable cleaning. We never saw a room - the front of the property already turned us off. We ended up staying on Changan next to a subway station and close to Silk Market which offered much better accommodations for around $25 more a night. This hotel may be okay for young people who are exploring, or natives accustomed to low Chinese standards, but for this sexagenarian American couple, we need something better and more convenient. Unilaterally canceling our reservation without notice is unforgivable, even if it turned out for the better.

Terrible experience
This place was listed as a four-star hotel but was definitely more in line with a two-star rating. The bathroom is extremely dark with just one dim light. The shower had no pressure, the hot and cold on the mixer valve was reversed, causing me to nearly burn myself, and it is in open view of the entire room with no curtain, shade or anything to offer some privacy. With all these flaws, I was prepared to give it a two-star review until we came back from a day of site seeing to find the room was not cleaned at all. Towels were dropped off and that’s it. We had to call the front desk twice before someone finally came to clean the room more than 20 minutes later while we sat and waited to wash up because, as previously mentioned, there shower is in open view of the entire room.

From photos of this hotel the rooms look lovely and nicely decorated. None of this matters when there is grime up the walls, dust, stained linen and a smell of damp in the room. We were shown 4 rooms before one was even slightly acceptable. All day we were out and our room wasn’t made up when we came back. The service of the staff at breakfast was not at a standard which with we are used to back in the UK. We could not wait to leave this hotel and we were only there 2 nights.

The hotel was close to the subway and Summer Palace. The staff were friendly and helpful. Also, the breakfast buffet was awesome! The only downside is that there were mosquitoes in the room that kept biting us.

there was nothing about this hotel that merits a 4 star. We booked it through the hotels agent and was told it was a nice place. There was construction on the right side of the building. It looks nothing like the photos and no one on the property spoke English nor did they bother to help. I wouldn't recommend this property to anyone.

We had problems at the check-in, receptionists speak only a few English words, and they tried to charge us again for a pre-paid room. After we got over that we had no problem; the room was clean, quiet and pretty good with a huge window, the breakfast was excellent, wifi was ok!

Oh boy, this hotel... The only thing good about it was the breakfast! And the location; close to the pearl market, red theatre, temple of heaven, and metro line. Breakfast was all Chinese style and we loved it, plus it was free. Check in and out was slow, took multiple people. The layout is confusing and there's random unmarked inclines hidden in the hallways, my husband tripped on one. Elevator is ridiculously slow. Our room was large and weird, there was no private space- the bathroom was completely open to the whole room, even the toilet! We've been married 9 years but I still like my private time on the toilet. There was a leak under the sink into the carpet with no way to access and fix it. The lighting was terrible. I don't believe it's sound proof as I could hear everyone in the halls and outside. Every night we limped back in from a long day exploring, got all the way to our room, just to find the key didn't work. 3 nights! The desk acted like it's a common complaint and no big deal. We also noticed numerous times where there were a few employees at the desk yet they would not answer the phone or assist guests. We're not picky, but this hotel was pretty terrible on multiple accounts. I wouldn't stay here again, and I don't say that sort of thing often.

Spooky hotel
The receptionist couldn't find our reservation and wasted a lot of our time. Our rooms were downstairs in the basement. The hallways smelled bad because there was a bathroom at the entrance. I could tell that the owner wanted to make the hotel rooms look special w/ decorations. But it felt odd and the place just felt run down. The toilet seat in my room was really dirty. The place gave both me and my coworker a weird, spooky vibe. I wouldn't want to stay here again.

Hotel looks tired
Confusing check-in done by a committee of four. Room and hotel is starting to look a little worn and used. The "restaurant" was an experience. Considering the amount of staff and the lack of customers it took forever to get service. Food was good when it did arrive. Check-out again was a committee confusion! Charming otherwise.

My experience was okay. Mine was a discount room and I suspect it was discounted because it was on the bottom floor right next to where staff keep their belongings and work. I could hear them, and some people slammed doors and argued with other staff within my hearing and made comments about my being American in ways that were rude. I am aware that I was referred to as the fat lady due to an error a woman made on her translator on her phone in showing me the translation. Apparently this is cultural, and yet I still think hotel staff would know better. There also wasn't an electrical outlet in the bathroom for plugging in a curling iron. On the other hand, the bed was extremely comfortable and the room was clean, the bathtub was amazingly comfortable (it reclined and had arm rests) and although it looked as if one wall was in the process of being speckled and painted, overall the room was beautiful and comfortable. The hospitality staff were friendly and accommodating. So it was a mix. Some staff were friendly and some were rude.

The hotel is pretty decent. The price is very good. The hotel was going through renovation, so it was a bit messy. The subway is a bit far. The service was good. I can speak Chinese, but I heard some guests have problem to get English service.

This Hotel says they have a currency exchange, so I tried it. Only, to find out they gave me counterfeit bills! They refuse to admit they gave me counterfeit money, but the cab and currency exchange at the airport refused to accept the bill.

The lobby was dirty and ran down. The "ramp" up the stairs was so steep it was useless. The bathroom had no wall or door to provide ANY privacy to the living area. The room carpet, bed side, walls, were all stained. The walls were paper thin. The shower pressure was terrible. The bed was hard. The food was disappointing. The hotel has no baby crib available.

Went I book this hotel Incould the free breakfast but went I go to the hotel the say don't have a breakfast you have to pay extra for the breakfast even your reservation say is free breakfast and staff not very friendly.

Not at all what I was expecting
The hotel was not as I was expecting a four star hotel to be. The doormen were very nice and helpful. The two women that were working at the reception desk at night were very rude. They treated me like they didn't want me there. I called the front desk to ask for an English menu. The girl said something in Chinese to someone in the background. She pressed a few buttons on the phone and hung up. I thought it was accidental, so I called back; only to have buttons pressed in my ear again and she hung up. I decided to just go to the front desk, thinking something was wrong with the phone. Before I even said anything, one of the girls looked at me and rolled her eyes. She said something to the other girl in Chinese. I can't speak Chinese, but body language is universal. They acted as if they were irritated by me. Neither girl bothered to help me and the girl behind the computer only spoke to me in Chinese (obviously, I couldn't understand but she spoke to me in English when I arrived). The doorman offered to help me, he was very nice and almost made up for the two girl's rude behavior. When I got ready to leave, I was told that I had to pay 50 yuan for polluting the sheets. Instead of changing the sheets, the maids just switched my pillows around. The oil from my hair caused a little staining on the sheets (which is washable). I believe that was a scam because why didn't they take it out of my deposit, isn't that's what it's for? I could hear the occupants in the next room.

Two days in autumn
Two days in Nov 2014. Hotel room ("Comfort Room") in the basement, no windows. No doors between bedroom and bathroom. Air Conditioning was fine. Coffee and tea for free, but no refrigerator. Western breakfast quite limited, more Chinese food available. WIFI works fine. TV with English news channels. 10 minutes to subway. Overall, good for a few days, however the room is too dark and too small for a longer stay.
