As it was a business trip, we had to stay at a location that was convenient for both the early starts at the meeting venue and a very early flight from Capital airport - this was ideal. That's about it for the positives - close to the metro and on the airport express line, and a quick taxi ride to the airport when the express isn't operating during the night. We knew it would be no-frills, but for the price paid it wasn't great. If you're used to sleeping on the floor or other hard surface, then the mattress would be perfect for you. However, if you need even the slightest bit of cushioning, perhaps bring your own topper! The pillows were also like breeze blocks. You also only get one tea bag/one coffee sachet per day for 2 people, so if you like your caffeine, bring your own. It was also at the time of year when Chinese hotels still have the central heating on; the air con in the better class of hotels can usually counteract the overwhelming heat, but despite it being 27C outside, the air con in this hotel just pumped out more hot air, which made for a very uncomfortable few nights. Most of the time, you can just open the window but owing to extra security for the "belt and road" meeting, the window handles had been removed!!! Minor things - it is a bit shabby now and needs a good steam clean, and the staff could benefit from some "customer service" training. Let's face it, a smile goes a long way and, after all, that is the business they're in...
