We booked two rooms through Expedia as the Resort website showed it fully booked. We checked into one of the two rooms early as we were preparing to attend an event that evening. We checked into the second room just before leaving for our even at 4:00 pm. The second room was for our children. They left the event earlier than us (approx. midnight) we left about a half hour later. Upon our arrival at the Resort, we found our children at the reception desk??? When they had arrived, they went to their room, opened the door and found a man sleeping on one of the beds. He had stayed at the Resort the previous night and his access card had not been cancelled. While that was sorted out (resort was full so an alternate room could not be provided) we all had to wait. Finally at about 1:30 in the morning we got the second room. I fully expected to be told we wouldn't be charged for second room after all the inconvenience and possible security breach, but because we had booked with Expedia they could do nothing about the cost. The Resort did try to make amends however, I still paid for the two rooms in full.
Almost impossible to find. There is virtually no signage identifying where to go (was looking for the name as shown on the itinerary, but that's not what it's called). Parking was terrible. The lot you are supposed to enter was gated, but unclear how to exit, but even worse, the residence doesn't have enough parking in the immediate area around the residence for all rooms, so had to park further away in a lot not allocated to the redidence and took 10 minutes to get security to open the gate to let me out after I checked out.
Situated on the western shore of Lake Simcoe about 60 km north of Toronto, Barrie is a thriving city with much to entertain visitors. Sun seekers flock to its beaches in the summer months, and in the winter the surrounding ski resorts and snowmobile trails offer plenty of excitement. The historic downtown area is fun to wander around, and there are a number of festivals held throughout the year.
