“Hotel Australia is a gem!”
Hotel Australia was great...centrally located and affordable. Thomas and his mother Maria were great hosts and provided a lot of helpful ideas and insight. Only downside was noise..din from the street was pretty loud. The place was clean and convenient and I highly recommend it!
“Perfect location”
I have recently arrived back from Barcelona and stayed at Residencia Australia with a friend for our last night in June. It was easy to find, and we were easily accommodated. Has a cute little elevator as well. We arrived early for our check in, but we were able to leave our bags behind the desk. Once we checked into our room after an hour or so, it was small but cosy and was enough for what we wanted, a place to sleep and relax after a big day and night. It's in a central location, just a block away from placa catalunya, and a couple of blocks away from La Ramblas. We met Thomas after coming home from dinner, and he was very friendly and kind. All the staff were friendly. Overall, it was a great stay for a great price. I would definitely go back and recommend to friends.
“Good place for the money.”
The hostel is in a great location and the owner, Thomas, was very helpful. He was available if needed and helped with where to go and what to see in Barceleona.
“Having a G'day in Barcelona”
I'll reiterate what many reviewers have said before me: the best part of Hostal Residencia Australia is its owner Thomas Lorenzo. As soon as you check in, Thomas makes you feel right at home and will provide you with a quick lesson on Barcelona. It being my first time in Europe, I was a little worried that I would waste a lot of time finding my bearings but Thomas's quick guide solved all that. Everything he told me was valuable information, from the way the Metro works to where to find the best bocadillos in he area. To all of us English speakers whose Spanish is limited to "Hablo un poco," Thomas is a godsend. With all of his advice, I was ready to conquer Barcelona as soon as I stepped out of the hostal. Now, I noticed that there are just as many who complain about the humble amenities. Hello. You're not checking in at The Ritz, people. That should be the first thing that you get into your head upon arriving. If you're shocked that there isn't a Sleep Number Bed waiting for you in your room, then you don't know what staying in a hostal is all about. You think anything other than a brand new plush bath towel is "like sandpaper on your skin?" Bring your own! I did, and it made a world of difference. The fact is, Thomas's place is safe, clean, affordable, and has great location. You're only a couple of blocks away from Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas and a few steps from the Metro. I couldn't have chosen a better place for my all-too-short stay in Barcelona.
“Residencial Australia excellent stay !”
I definitely recommend this hostel. It has an excellent location, prices are very reasonable and the owner is very friendly and accommodating. It is as advertised and just what I was looking for.
“fabulous”
We had to have a room with a shared bathroom for the first night due to problems. however hotel staff could not have been more helpful, and discounted our bill accordingly. the shared bathroom as well as accomodation was scrupulously clean. The room is small, but clean, and about 75 metres from one of the corners of the placa cataluyna. We stayed with Maria on the second night, in a lovely room with a little ensuite. She was a delightful chatty lady who made us feel very welcome. all tea coffee facilities, clean and cosy. i actually said to my boyfriend yesterday we could stay in a fancy hotel if we had the money, but i dont think even then i'd want too.
“Great little gem!”
Fantastic place to stay in Barcelona. Thomas was super helpful to us. Great spiel at the beginning about what to see and where to go. He was very friendly it felt like you were at home. Definitely would recommend it to stay and would stay there again next time in Barcelona.
“Very comfortable and good deal”
We were very satisfied with Residencia Australia. It is a guesthouse or pension, not really a hotel, so it's low-frills--the bathroom was tiny, the furnishings a bit hodgepodge. But it's clean and Thomas and his mother quite delightful. The neighborhood is excellent, easy to get everywhere and central without being horribly touristy. I'd definitely stay then again!
