“Great Stay!”

Before booking this hotel, we did alot of research for finding the right place and price. The reviews were good and I have stayed at this hotel chain before and knew that it would probably be comparable - I was right. Its a great place to stay. Its across the street from the beach and its nice and clean. It is not close to a metro line but the walk is not that far. We had a great rate at this hotel but the last night we paid more because more people came. If you go to the gym downstairs, there is a water cooler and you can refill your bottles for free. As well, with most hotels in Barcelona, internet is free. The staff speak perfect english and are very, very nice. Renting is car is also good. Overall, I think anyone staying here will be pleased. If you want downtown core, which is really nice you can always book a hotel there or just taxi or take metro. Cab ride to Los Ramblas was 8-10 euro. Definitely not bad. This place is also good for business as well. This hotel was a definite treat compared to other hotels that I have been to the room size, amenities, staff and good beach location make this a great pick. Almost forgot, the hotel food is good but you can also go to Olympic Park or across the street to the beach and eat a local restaurant. One thing for certain that is great is the juice. It is freshly made and very tasty, much better than the canned stuff in north america. In all I was pleased and will return there when I go back to Barcelona.

“Great Location”

The Atenea Mar had a beautiful location, right in front of the beach. Our room was beautiful and having arrived very early in the day before our room was ready, the hotel staff was more then accomodating.

“Breat value for a good hotel”

We stayed at this hotel at the end of October and booked it based on these reviews. We were not disappointed. The location was perfect for us. We hopped on the Metro to go into the city and rented a car also as we we were in Barcelona to watch my nephew race at the Circuit de Catalunya and didn't want to stay in a hotel near the race track since it is in an industrial area. Lots to see within walking distance and very close to many great restaurants and tourist attractions. Traffic is pretty crazy around the hotel so if you are looking for a quiet little hotel, this is not the one for you. Alot of hustle and bustle since it is in the financial district...a great hotel for business travellers. Very economical compared to alot of other hotels we looked into...

“Clean, modern, and close to beach”

My gf and I stayed here 2 nights. The staff spoke english and were helpful most of the time. The room's decor was very modern and bathroom included a bidet. Lobby bar was inviting and even provided free internet (although it was constantly occupied). Hotel was relatively far from the 'rambla', but we don't mind taking the metro which is about 7 stops away. There's a few restaurant's in the area, but not much happening at night.

“Very good but..”

About the only disappointment at this hotel, although a major one for me, was the poor quality of internet reception.

“Close to the beach, very clean”

This hotel was close to the beach...but not the "nice beaches". It was very clean, hotel service was pretty good. Internet access was free but pretty slow and awful unless you are in the lobby. English is relatively limited. To get to the main part of town there is a bus pretty much right in front of the hotel and it takes about 10 minutes to get there. Overall a decent place to stay.

“If you're looking for a beach getaway, this one is a great deal.”

The hotel was very modern and close to decent restaurants. It's main attraction is that you are right across from the beaches. Thank goodness for their awesome air conditioning which is definitely needed in Barcelona. Shopping district is about 5 blocks away. Closest metro station about 4 blocks away, although the bus is right across the street. Had a great time and felt we got a really good deal overall. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We found most of the locals less willing to volunteer information that should be obvious to provide (you need to be able to ask the right questions).

“I'd think twice about staying here again”

We arrived early in the morning to drop our bags and park the car, but could not check in. This was fine except that we indicated that we would be touring for the day and arrive back that night. I had booked and paid for 2 rooms, preferably adjoining or on the same floor, and reiterated this to the staff that morning. Unfortunately, upon our return that night we were informed that we could not have two rooms. Apparently one of the rooms we were to have could not be used because of an issue from the previous occupant with pets. The hotel provided one larger room with cots to take the place of the second room and offered breakfast as well. Not much we could do at 11 pm other than accept the change. We had just stayed at the Barcelo in Valencia and chose this hotel in Barcelona based on our experience in Valencia. We were disappointed with the front desk and having to have one room, but pay for two.

“Not impressed”

Trouble from the beginning. The hotel staff would not acknowledge my reservation because it had been made through Expedia - they tried to convince me to go to a different hotel for 2 out of the 4 nights I had reserved. I refused and in hindsight should have taken them up on the offer. The linens on the bed were filthy and after a very uncomfortable first night, the sheets were changed. The floor in the bathroom was constantly wet after a shower - I assume due to drainage problems. No a/c and it was incredibly hot. Apart from the first night run in with the female receptionist, the rest of the staff were very friendly and accomodating.
