Bangkok hotels are not so highly priced so its worth pushing the boat out a little. A hotel on the river scores because the river is both an attraction and a useful means of travel in a city where the traffic jams can be horrendous.
The Shangri La is an excellent 5* hotel on the river. We stayed in the Krungthep Wing which is definitely worth the extra. Our room was spacious and comfortable and had a river view. Guests have the advantage of complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea and happy hour drinks, amongst other benefits. We had dinner at their Thai restaurant, and a dinner cruise on the Horizon.
