Dining
Cotton Jazz Bar the hippest and jazziest venue in Bangkok’s China Town. From the incredible design that harkens back to the romance of 1930’s Shanghai, a time when great jazz artists were featured in the best clubs in the city to the elegance and intimacy of 1950’s underground nightclubs in New York, Chicago and Paris.
Cotton has found the best Thai jazz artists to do their thing, including Siam Band, Harmony and our new favorite, Marshmallow; each playing all types of jazz, from avante-garde to bebop to jazzy interpretations of classic pop songs (think about Coltrane’s “My favorite Things!).
Open daily from 6:30 - 10:30 with amazing specials, drinks you can create yourself and fun foods from the kitchen that occasionally starts popping popcorn. Come join us and lose yourself in great music, freshly minted cocktails, fine wine and food. Step up to Cotton, conveniently located in the center of Bangkok in Chinatown.

“An unexpected gem”
I found this hotel by chance some 8 months ago and have stayed there 3 times since. Each time has been enjoyable and met expectations. It is conveniently located and the street foodstalls are enjoyable to both explore and eat at. I heartily recommend the hotel.
“Quaint Hotel”
This hotel is conveniently located in China Town........less so for some other attractions. It is in the old Chinese Opera House and decorated in the period of Shang Hai around the 1940's.......it is extremely quaint......... Jazz band at night,,,,,,, food is great and surrounded by foodstalls at night............Has won Boutique Hotel Awards.........Close to HuaLampong Railway station which is why we chose it several months ago. Enjoyed it so went back on this visit 4 months later.
“Beautiful, quirky hotel in a fascinating location”
We spent one night at Shanghai Mansion in late October on our last night in Bangkok. Despite what must have been a stressful time for staff during the floods (there were sandbags to climb over to get inside), the service was excellent with lovely staff who spoke great English. We were blown away by the beautiful, quirky interior of the hotel (every bit as good as it looks in the promotional photos) and of our (Mei Hua/superior) room and the the breakfast included with our room was good. The surrounding area of Chinatown was interesting to explore, I only wish we'd had more than a couple of hours to spare. Only two (minor) things to note - the pillows were extremely high so not terribly comfortable, and our room had no natural lighting (but a large coloured glass "window" with backlighting helped a lot). It may be possible (?) to request a naturally-lit room if this bothers you, but I wouldn't let it put you off staying here!
“Pleasantly Surprised”
We stayed in this hotel for one night after spending three weeks travelling Thailand. I wasn't expecting much based on price but it turned out to be one of the better hotels we stayed at. Positives Free, fast wifi in your room. Free safety box (90% of the hotels we stayed at in Thailand did not have one). Everything in the fridge including drinks and snacks were free. Super large bed. His and hers bathrobes. Spacious room. Great breakfast. Negatives Location. It's hidden pretty well from the street. Several cab drivers couldn't locate it even with a map. Better to be asked to get dropped off at the intersection.
“Really impressed!”
Great hotel. Everything perfect in old Shanghai style in chinatown. I recommend
“Great hotel”
The hotel is in the China town district of Bangkok. It is easy to get a taxi or tuk tuk to some of the main attractions of Bangkok. The hotel staff are extremely helpful and will offer advice on places to go visit and where to eat as well as how much you should pay to get there. It is beautifly decorated and a lot of fun. There is no bar or restaurant in the hotel but there are so many options for places to eat right outside the hotel itself.
“terrific decor and location in Bangkok Chinatown”
Fabulous decor, pleasant staff, very good cafe. I found wandering the streets around the hotel fascinating. The lack of air conditioning in the hallways plus the need to place your roomkey in a slot within the room meant that on return the room was stifling on hot days, and required the aircon to be running at least a half hour before the room became habitable. Staff ability to fully communicate in English was limited.
“A great hotel in Bangkok”
We liked this hotel very much and will recommend it to our friends as well as will stay there again ourselves. The location is also great.
“Beautiful individual boutique hotel at a reasonable cost.”
It was a beautiful place, exquisite interiors - thoughtful, stylish and unusual. Great location in the centre of buzzing China Town. We had a free dinner one night and the staff couldn't help is enough. The manager joined us briefly on our last nite and was very sweet and hospitable. Strongly recommend to anyone wishing for a unique, sophisticated experience at an amazing price.
“Extra Special Hotel”
The Shanghai Inn (as it still appears to be called) is wonderful. A little hard to find at first but when we got there we were very pleased with the hotel. It's quirky and fun and the decor in the rooms and the common areas is beautiful, especially the indoor pond!! We ate in the restaurant on the day of our departure, the food was delicious and the service excellent but we were the only people there! I would highly recommend this hotel, it's comfortable and fun and nothing is too much bother for the staff. The location is great, right in the heart of Chinatown but only a tuk tuk ride away from everything else.
