“Beautiful Views of the Canadian Rockies”

The room we booked had a wonderful unobstructed view of the Canadian Rockies with a large picture window in the room. A door in the room opened to the outside porch with chairs to relax and take in the full view. The hotel was top-notched nestled on a mountain in the trees and very clean and new inside. We went in October so not a lot of tourists with kids which can contribute to a lot of noise. A great place to relax at a great time of the year. Oh by the way, stayed at another hotel in Banff which said they had a great view . We had to go out on the porch and look up past the roof of the opposite condo to see a small portion of a mountain.

“Good location”

The Juniper Hotel is situated just outside of the town center, so very quiet externally. One night one of the other guests was loud in the hallway, but aside from that, our stay was uneventful (which was good). Their hot tub had a wonderful view but could have been hotter - or if it had a temperature selector, it would have been perfect. Great place to relax after a day of hiking. I would stay there again.

Area recommendations
All of Banff was enjoyable. The hiking was incredible.
When to go
Go in the fall when the crowds have died down - more enjoyable than summer.
Dining
Be sure to have a meal at Bumpers Restaurant, excellent Alberta beef.
Other
Forget the hot springs pool - not worth the effort. Too crowded and not hot enough.

“Noise is the problem”

The styling of the hotel was better than I expected. It's modern and clean. We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights, but needed to change room 4 times. Okay, that's maybe because I'm sensitive to noise. First night was a room on the 1st floor, the floor above was really noisy and I could hear every movement above, and there was a fan in the hallway next to the room; so I asked the front desk to change to a 2nd floor room, but the room was on the highway side; the 3rd night we asked for a room on the quiet side, and we were offered a double-bed room instead of a king we reserved; the receptionist seemed not very happy, and I was told 'there are not many options', when we entered the room, we immediately felt the floor was shaking, and noticed the room was next to a hallway fan again, so we had to ask again and finally got a quiet room for the last night. If like me, you want a quiet room to sleep at night, ask them to give you a 2nd floor room, not on the highway side, and not next to a fan.

Area recommendations
Actually, I think Lake Louise is a better place to stay, since many lakes are in that area. This hotel is not in the town of Banff, although just several minutes' drive.

“Cool boutique hotel”

Really cool hotel. We had a room with a king size bed. The room had a great view of the mountains, the town, and the Banff Springs Hotel in the distance. Great service. Went to the bistro for breakfast which was also really good! The only downsides were as follows. The hotel is along the TransCanada highway so if you are a light sleeper like me then you may want a room that doesn't face the highway (although you don't have that great of a view either). My girlfriend is a heavier sleeper than me and didn't notice the highway noise at all. Our room didn't have heat for some reason. We called the front desk and they offered us another room, although it was late so we just got out the extra blanket and went with it. I'm sure they will have it fixed for the next guests.

“Costly but a good night's sleep”

We reserved a King Room with balcony. It was nice enough but the cost associated with High-Season was very hard to swallow. I would suggest this was overpriced for the high season but would be better value in Fall. The room was nice enough, even if on the smaller side. The balcony had a fantastic view of the Banff Springs Hotel, surrounding mountains and the Vermillion lakes. For the most part it was quiet but be aware you are situated above the Trans Canada highway. My wife, who is a light sleeper, was woken up several times during the night by tractor trailers using their engine retarder brakes. Please be aware that we only recommend this hotel if you don't mind paying inflated prices for a room during high season or will be visiting in the low season. Also, being outside of Banff townsite proper is good for some people as it gives you the illusion of seclusion.l

When to go
As mentioned, Banff businesses rely on the high season (read: summer) to make enough money to get them through the leaner winter months. Be aware that if you go in summer, you will be paying a premium for a night's sleep.
Getting around
Since this hotel is outside of Banff, having your own transportation is valuable. However, a quick phone call can get you a cab for a reasonable rate.

“beautiful setting just on the outskirts of Banff”

The biggest disappointment with The Juniper was the fact that the hot tub (which had been a desirable feature) was not working for the entire long weekend of our stay. The desk clerk said they couldn't get parts to repair it until after the holiday. When I suggested that some form of compensation be offered, ie. a free breakfast,or even "coffee and dessert," the desk clerk said that would not be possible. I tried 3 different times to suggest that even a small show of compensation would bode well for the hotel ... but he didn't bite at all. I possibly would have had more luck with the manager ... but maybe not. The 2 waitresses we had were wonderful. The food is good and fresh. 2 of the 3 desk clerks were very personable. The hotel is "unique" with its natural building materials. It is just at the town line ... so a nice setting away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

“Great place to stay”

Great place to stay. I think the rooms were renovated. Very simple design, furniture and all but with a contemporary feel to it. The place is somewhat secluded, short distance from downtown. Makes it very peaceful and serene. Less foot traffic and all. They try to encorporate the green concept. Toiletries and packaging were made from eco/green ingredients. We had the nice view of the mountains. Even though our room was facing the Highway (1) side, we hardly heard the sound of the cars passing by outside. Absolutely enjoyed my stay.

Area recommendations
Definitely do not miss Banff gondola and the Lake Louise. Enjoy the hiking trails in Lake Louise, absolutely breath taking.
