“not what was expected”
This newer hotel in Banff is modern and clean, yet lacks good service and confortable rooms. The 'superior' rooms are tiny- and all look onto the inner(outside walkway)-no view of any kind. The hot tub is great and the onsite Chilis restarant had good service but the rooms were disappointing
“Fox in Banff”
Although I'm not a great fan of rustic decor, our room was clean and comfortable -- a little cramped -- and the included buffet breakfast was welcome. The "grotto" hot pool looked intriguing, and will be used by tired skiers. Outside corridors and courtyard are not visible from the street -- a surprise!
“We loved this place.”
This was a wonderfully friendly place. It had great ambience and a lay back feel. It was quiet in the rooms even though there was a lot of activity in and around the place. The grotto like pool was wonderful. The staff would go out of their way to help. It was a great mountain get away.
“Nice hotel”
The pool was awesome, rooms are small but clean.
“Nice place smallish rooms”
We stayed at the Fox at low season. Check in was easy, the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel is new and the layout is nice with a outdoors rustic feel to it. The rooms we a bit small for Banff and as a minor point the bathroom was door was located next to the head of the bed. Would recommend.
“A Nice Place to Stay”
This hotel is quite nice. The room was nice and dark and relatively quiet. The hotel has a very nice atmosphere and Chili's restaurant is located in the lobby. The continental breakfast was free but fairly plain, though they did have waffles (but no bacon and eggs). Room was averaged size but everything worked well and the room was clean. A nice play to stay!
“Excellent Place to Stay”
This hotel was a great hotel to stay it. It was just a few minutes walk to downtown to shopping, eating and attractions. The rooms were very roomy and had plenty of space. The hotel was very nice and very helpful. The breakfast in the morning was also execellent. I will stay here on return trip!
“Convenient Location”
We were very impressed with the hotel staff. They were very kind, accomodating and helpful. The room was clean, although the bed was very hard. That's the only item we would have liked different. The breakfast had quite a few offerings that were constantly refilled. Overall, the hotel room, breakfast offerings, staff and hot tub and sauna area were excellent!
“Beware of room 404”
If you are paying the same rate as others, and upon check-in you are assigned room 404, it is difficult to consider this as anything other than a personal insult. It is as if the matre'd assigned you the table in front of the kitchen door because you did not tip enough. Perhaps the front desk sized up your clothes, watch and jewelry and concluded you are a poor tipper too. Room 404 is directly across a walkway from a kitchen vent and roof air conditioner. You can't close the windows to shut out the noise, since the room is not air conditioned (not needed in the Canadian Rockies). It's intolerable! If I were the management of this establishment, to forstall such affronts to guests, and the resulting reviews as this one, I would : (a) inform the front desk to assign this room last, and only with a discount; (b) close off this room during the summer months and only open it during ski season; or (c) air condition it so the windows can be shut. After complaining and being reassigned, the next room was acceptable, but not without areas for improvement: (a) Put a blanket on the bed. The bed is made with just a sheet and comforter. The sheet is too light, and the comforter is too heavy, for comfortable sleeping. The bed needs a mid-weight blanket too. (b) Give us a laminate card with a TV channel guide. It takes too long for the guide channel to scroll across all the channels to find the channel number for the TV network you are seeking.
“Nice Feel to this Hotel”
Fox Hotel is a few blocks from the center of town, but a fun and comfortable place to stay. Interior courtyard rooms are quiet, and you can't hear the trains that are so obvious in most hotels in Banff. The lodge-like main reception area and foyer is cozy. Included breakfast is served efficiently buffet style by the Chili's that is incorporated with the hotel. The cave-like hot bath facility built into the underground portion of the courtyard is kind of cool, but we did not use it. The provision of free underground parking with the room is a nice feature in a place like Banff, where parking can be difficult or expensive, but not as bad as Calgary that has very expensive pre-pay parking everywhere downtown. Staff was super friendly and helpful. We stayed at the Fairmont Banff Springs and this hotel on the same trip, and I have to say this was more fun and less expensive. I would go back.
