“Dirty Floors and Carpet”

We decided to do a relaxing trip in Banff after the Thanksgiving Weekend. We wanted an affordable room in the 3 to 4 star rating. We decided on the High Country Inn because of the free parking, close to the two restaurants we were going to, the pictures for the room looked good and they had a free continental breakfast. The room we stayed in had a comfy bed, ok furniture and an old TV. The real disappointment was when I noticed that the floors in the entrance and bathroom were filthy. The next day we noticed that the carpets were full of dust behind the chairs and along the walls.

Area recommendations
West of the town offers a little more activities. Although most hotels are located within walking distance to everything.
When to go
Mid October after Thanksgiving. Less busy and cheaper. There are lots of sales as well.
Must see
MerMan at the Banff Indian Trading Post. Banff Whyte Museum.
Dining
The first night we went to the Downtown Keg and we had a fantastic meal. Steak and double baked potato was awesome. The next night we went to El Toro. Wonderful room and fantastic wine. We had the El Toro platter which was a perfect mix for our appetite.
Nightlife
Rose and Crown had Rock but drinks were expensive and they made us pay a cover charge. Wild Bill's however had the same covercharge but a better atmosphere, drink specials and a large dance floor and stage.

“Mediocre and noisy”

For starters we would never stay on Banff Ave again - the noise at night unbelievable. Not just traffic but hooting and hollering until 4am. The hotel is very mediocre and had strange religous tracts as wall art in the room. Not our cup of tea.

Area recommendations
anywhere off Banff Ave.

“One night stay”

We had no problems at this hotel. I found the beds to be very comfortable and the staff very friendly. We asked for a late check out and it was granted no problem. Infact, I left the room to go to enjoy the continetal breakfast and the house keeping was vacuuming the hall way and asked if they were being too noisey. The continetnal breakfast was o.k. The only thing I didn't like was there was WAY to much chlorine in the pool. Our room was also very clean.

“Would definitely stay again!”

Found this to be a great stay for the price. Stayed July 30-Aug 1 2011. The front desk staff were very friendly. Has a continental breakfast which is a good start to the day. Didn't spend a lot of time in room as we were there to revisit Banff but the time we did it was quiet and relaxing. Would stay here again and recommend to our friends.

Getting around
We parked our vehicle when we arrived and did use it again till we left. All amenities are within walking distance. We rented bikes at Snow Tips on Bear St across from the tattoo shop and found that the quickest and best way to get around. The staff at Snow Tips were friendly and helpful. Great bike paths to check out along the Bow River. Banff has public transit as well.

“Just one thing”

I stayed at the High country for 3 nights, I checked in and the next morning when i went to make coffee, there was old coffee in the pot and the used filter, I cleaned the pot and made a note for the cleaning girl. the next day I made another pot,, the filter was gone but still left over coffee in the pot. You would think cleanliness would be the number 1 thing on the cleaning list , thats my only complaint, the continental breakfast was actually not too bad.

Area recommendations
Anywhere in downtown area, unless you have a car,

“Excellent Stay”

I'm really recommend this hotel the location is just perfect, staff very friendly and know almost everything around when you are asking for things to do, the only thing that I can say does not make this review perfect, is that the hotel could be renovate all the furniture is completely functional but very old, the breakfast is just ok for a continental breakfast nothing extraordinary but good enough and the parking lot I always found an spot available

“Okay Hotel for Banff - Dirty Bedding Though”

My girlfriend and I stayed in this hotel over the May Long Weekend, 2011. The hotel front staff were very helpful. The continental breakfast was okay, selection wasn't the greatest, but it was free so hard to complain about that. Pool, hot tubs and sauna were in good condition and clean to the appearance. The main issue we had with this hotel was when we went to go to sleep there was an abundance of pubic and head hair through out the bedding. When we noticed the hair, which was at 12:30 AM, I went to the front desk and had them bring up new sheets. The hotel staff didn't offer a new room or something to make up for the dirty sheets, which was expected but something would have been nice. In the future we will not be staying at this hotel again.

“Nice hotel”

Nice hotel, we really enjoyed the hot tub and pool after a long day of skiing. Breakfast was okay (fruit, bread, milk, coffee, muffins, cereal...). The only thing we didn't like was the noise in our room. We were beside the elevator on the third floor and, because of that, it was really noise early in the morning and late at night.
