"Absolutely superb!"
What a wonderful hotel - great location, genuinely warm and friendly staff and superb breakfast. 10 mins walk (or 30 second ferry!) from the main restaurants and shops. My wife and I visited in April for a romantic break and will definately return and stay at the Podewils.

"Lovely place for a relaxing city break"
This hotel is great for a relaxing city break. Overlooking the river and centrally located, the hotel offers a great base for exploring Gdansk as well as leisure facilities to ensure you can 'chill out'. The rooms are clean, modern and spacious with huge beds and large bathrooms. Everything was immaculate. The hotel leisure area is great with a lovely little pool for a dip, sauna, steam room and well equipped gym. My favourite part of the hotel was the roof terrace overlooking the river, where you can have a drink at the bar or enjoy the sunbeds further along (which are extremely comfortable) with a beautiful view. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

"Trip extension in search of family roots."
We started our trip with friends visiting Krakow & Prague. Staying at the Galaxy in Krakow (4 star) and the Best western Majestic (4 ½ star) in Prague. Neither of these are what I’d call an easy walk to anything but they are nice hotels. The Majestic room was small. The Hanza rooms are very large. We then went to Gdansk in search of my family roots. Hanza, via emails with them, took care of arranging a driver at the airport, we arrived at midnight and he was waiting for us. The night clerk, Krzysztof, was great. He was a great resource at finding family roots and he’s even a Facebook friend now. They arranged their driver to take us to my family’s towns which was about an hour South of Gdansk. They said he wasn’t fluent in English but he was pretty darn good!!! He was great & is fluent in German too. All staff were very good at English. The trip was well worth it!! We stayed 3 days and spent the other 2 exploring nearby. After all the walking we did in Krakow & Prague it was nice to be only 2 blocks from the old town, covered market (amazing place) & right on the canal. The room view was great! We didn’t do museums but walked by several of them. Gdansk itself is friendly & safe. Yes it was pretty destroyed in WWII but it is rebuilt nicely!! There real tourist season is in the summer so this was off season and very peaceful and quiet which was great after being in Prague. If I went back I’d go to the beaches, the Vodka factory & the shipping yards.

"Hostel close to the city center."
Very understanding staff. I appreciate that a lot. The hostel is at the complete end of the road, so do not give up. It is 2 minutes to the Hilton, which is right on the board walk.
