“Great budget hotel”
Pretty good location - 10 min walk to Acropolis. Hotel is good value for money: free coffee/tea all the time, free wifi. The lounge/reception is very modern/new, while the rooms are less modern. Everything was fairly clean.
“Great, cheap hotel.”
I stayed there for a week in April 2012. I booked through two different online agencies, so this review may be repeated if you check different sites. We arrived at 4am. Reception was manned by a charming man, tea and coffee was available, and booking in was efficiently and courteously handled. We were given a room facing the street on the 6th floor. It was clean and big enough for the two of us. Air conditioning was quiet, the bathroom had a shower and a bath, the TV received BBC 24 news, and there was a big balcony with a table and chairs. There were two laptops in the reception area to check emails. We’d been warned on Tripadvisor that the rooms facing the street were noisy. I didn’t find that, and I hate disturbances at night. It’s on a quiet side street, with the police ‘station’ (actually a table set on the pavement next to the hotel) right outside our door. So we felt safe as houses there. Omonia has a reputation for being a red light area, we saw nothing like that. The staff were marvellous. My friend likes her tea ‘English’ style, and after two requests, they were boiling a kettle for her to make her tea. The coffee was filtered, none of that instant muck. I can recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a cheap hotel in Athens. I’m looking for a gripe – the only one could be that the room wasn’t cleaned every day. But who needs that anyway?
“Athenes decembre 2012 c'est chaud, mais Soho te tient chaud”
Excellent rapport qualite-prix en decembre 2012. Accueil anglophone, non francophone, mais chaleureux, intelligent, efficace, simple, avec cafe et the gratuits, et computer internet de meme. Situation en plein centre d'Athenes, quartier du marche, bruyant et populaire.
“family with children”
Elevator doesn't work often and we were on the 7th floor. Room was musty and had a urine smell. Area is a little shady but the sidewalk outside the hotel seems to be a congregating spot for police officers which actually makes you feel safe. Lots of cheap eating spots around. Staff are helpful, laptops in the reception area with free internet access are a bonus.
“A cheap hotel in a central location”
This hotel has low rates and is good value. The wifi and the TV worked, the bathroom was ok, the hot water was hot, and the fridge was cold. The elevator was under repair for several hours over a couple of days but I was able to use the service elevator. I really liked the central location. I was able to walk to the main attractions of Athens and I enjoyed shopping at the nearby municipal market in Athinas Street. My criticisms are that there were no facilities for making a cup of tea or coffee in the room, and the street and surrounding area is rough. There is a strong police presence in the street which I found reassuring.
“A hotel only for those on a tight budget”
The hotel is located in a poor and unfriendly area positioned next to a burnt out building, there was a police bus and up to ten officers stationed seemingly permanently outside all day, which on the plus side made the walk out more reassuringly safe. Certainly the police were there for every one of the six days of my stay, keeping watch on the dozens and dozens of young men loitering around on the street. The hotel itself is run by very friendly staff who all spoke English. I can't fault them for their courtesy and helpfulness. Free Wifi, coffee, board games and the use of a hotel bicycle is provided but nothing further by way of refreshments or facilities are available. My double room was extremely basic and verging on the disgustingly unhygienic. It stuck me during my stay that the place could be transformed with new carpets, a good clean and repainting but as it stands it's not a comfortable stay unless you have a good tolerance of dirt and bad smells. I certainly wouldn't recommend this hotel for those with children or couples looking for a romantic place in Athens to stay. This place is I think only for single travellers on a tight budget or students looking for a central place to stay. So on the plus side the staff were great but on the negative the building interior and the area of Athens leaves much to be desired. When I return to the city it won't be to stay in this hotel, I'll pay that bit extra for somewhere better.
