“Bonne etape dans le cuircuit”
Personnel serviable, courtois et attentionne. Restauration correcte. Acitivtes proposees bien organisees
“We enjoyed staying here....”
The lodges were lovely - we were worried before going having read a review about scorpions in the room. We didn't see any - but kept a look out! The reception and waiting staff were very helpful. Due to the out of town location (and inclement weather) we had one lunch and two evening meals at the 'hotel'. The food was good, but choice was limited. We would have preferred some cheaper 'snack' options to be available.
“Life in the Forest”
We had a great time at the Cloud Forest, the canopy tour was the best (and first!) The hotel is a little far away from town and the condition of the road made going out at night challenging... though the restaurant was good. The only caution I would give to people is be prepared for some snakes, tarantulas and other insects...it is in the forest and makes it interesting! There is a night watchman there to catch creatures outside. The staff was great, especially Gustavo in the restaurant. The view and gardens were amazing...
“Cloud Forest Hotel experience”
You need a 4X4 to get there and we had a car. It had rained and the steep road combined with mud made it impossible to climb the road so we had to back down and find the alternate route. The hotel was nice but no heat and it was very cold. I saw my first Motmot and it was a beautiful bird. The staff were wonderful but the road to Santa Elena is trecherous and I would not go again. If you go take a tourismo so you don't have to drive. Food was wonderful as well as the staff.
“Scorpions in our bedroom”
On April, 2011, I had reservations at the hotel. After checking in, we began to unpack. My wife and children (11, 8 and 5) found a large scorpion in our room. It was at least 3 inches long. I killed it, and reported it to the front desk. I was given a can of insect spray. I was told to spray the room MYSELF, that the spray was nontoxic, and it should be fine after dinner. When I returned to the room, another scorpion had come either out of the wall or from under the bed. This all occurred within the first 20 minutes of being there. My wife and 3 children refused to stay there. The only other room room available was the room directly nest door. Since the room shared the same walls that the scorpions had come from, the wall the scorpions were on was the wall between the rooms, this was unacceptable. We informed the clerk that we need to change hotels. He was courteous enough to make another reservation for us. I was unhappy when he informed me that he was unable to refund my money because we were passed the cancellation time, and that having 2 scorpions in the room is not considered something that makes the room unacceptable. I was very disappointed in the way the situation was handled and that we were not reimbursed for a room that we never stayed in. In my opinion, no matter where you are, having huge, possibly dangerous scorpions in your hotel room is NEVER acceptable. My daughters and wife are still having nightmares about the situation.
