“Unpretentious, relaxed, gets all the basics right”
On a white sand beach, with a view of the sunset over the sea just alongside Montserrat on the horizon, pure blue water with that milkiness you get with white sand in the tropics. Calm enough water to let my 5 yr old swim without me in the water most of the time, though the waves picked up when a cold front came in. Great dive shop right on the beach - they know excellent spots. Don't bother with getting the all inclusive armbands from next door's Jolly Beach Resort - not worth it unless you want an all day cocktail bender - just get a drink at the beach bar Castaways which is just as near as the JBR as the sun goes down. Must do activity is the sunset and steel band barbecue at Shirley Heights on a Sunday - even if you go Saturday to Saturday, it's worth this first full day trip out. Hotel a little careworn in places (need to replace a bulb on the tennis court floodlights and the carpet on 2 courts getting quite worn; the 2 hard courts a little better). Only gripes would be inconsistency of what's provided in each room (we had coffee filter papers and useful tupperware boxes in one suite, but not another when we changed as our travelling party became smaller), paper thin walls so that you hear every word in the room next door, and outdoor furniture that's a little too big to fit the balconies. Not a lot to moan about really!
“Jolly Beach Vacations”
The suites are actually the time share part of the Jolly Beach resort. The suites are very nice and spacious. However people with small children, the elderly and those with handicaps should be warned that the buildings are 3 stories with no elevators. Our only disaapointment came from the Jolly Beach resort which facilities you will use during your stay. The pool, beach chairs etc all seem to be pretty run down. The hotel is in dire need of an update.We spend the majority of our time down a bit from the resort on the beach and only went to the pool a few times. The suites are next to a marina, which has a grocery store and a few restaurants which is very convenient.
“convenient and friendly”
Tranquility Bay Suites are good. A bedroom with big firm bed , a lounge with sofas and a small well equipped kitchenette, all with air con. Perfect for a couple. Room service was very willing with clean sheets and towels on request, also a daily change of special beach towels. The larger suites (for 4) were really good, two bedrooms, large lounge, shower room and bathroom, plus a laundry room. Try to get a non ground floor room. The balconies are dark and have little view, as well as being overlooked from the road in some places. Lots of nice eateries by the harbour, better value than the Jolly Beach Resort facilities that are suggested, unless Karaoke is your thing! Good supermarket 5 minutes walk away. Nice beach with soft sand - and sand flies - so take repellent. They do need a proper handbook for guests, said it is in production. Helpful staff deal with queries with humour. All in all good value
